A cloudy, cold update for West Rockville Maryland on Sunday, December 10 2017

Sunday was a cloudy, cold, snowless day that saw the snowpack reduce a bit under the still surprisingly powerful sun’s rays under the cloudy skies. Sunday temperatures dropped very early in the AM into the upper mid 20s, then rising into the low 30s by sunrise, and peaking out in the upper 30s by mid-afternoon. Dew points were in the 20s all day. The Sunday minimum temperature from the VP2 (27.6°) was recorded at 0141 while the maximum temperature (37.8°)…

Saturday was a glorious day, nice and wintry with cloudy, cold skies and an all day beautiful light snow (2.0″ total – average of 4 measurements on the snowboard and a 0.21″ snow water equivalent (SWE)) that only accumulated on trees, grass and car tops, and left the roadways and sidewalks just wet) (see several pictures below – small file size), but later on in the evening turned icy. On Friday we had cloudy skies (thickening and lowering cirrostratus/altostratus overcast) with no precipitation (yet) as final preparations for our overnight and during the day Saturday snow were busily completed. Temperatures were chilly all day starting out in the mid 30s in the early AM, then rising slowly to the mid 40s by the early-mid afternoon, then dropping slowly into the upper 30s by late evening. On Wednesday we had mostly cloudy skies (gradually rising overcast stratocumulus and altocumulus) with no further rain, and breezy, blustery conditions at times resulting in lowering wind chills. Monday featured a good deal of “milky” sun, filtered partially by an increasing high cloud overcast from our slowly approaching cold front. Temperatures started out frosty around the freezing mark, rising up into the low 50s by mid-afternoon.
