A brief update to the cloudy, colder but dry day at West Rockville Maryland on Friday, December 8 2017

On Friday we had cloudy skies (thickening and lowering cirrostratus/altostratus overcast) with no precipitation (yet) as final preparations for our overnight and during the day Saturday snow were busily completed. Mostly I was getting my gauges straight, and my snowboard installed in its appropriate place. One picture of the snowboard is the featured image to this post, and another is inserted below.

I stayed up all night awaiting for the start of the snow which didn’t come till around 0800 Saturday. So I crashed and did not post a report till now for December 8. So like I did earlier in the week, I am posting a much briefer December 8 report now and a bit later I will post for Dec 9, including details of our snow during much of the day and catch up on a few features that I am not posting in this briefer report.

Anyway, on Friday temperatures were colder than on Thursday. I started out in the upper 30s in the very early AM, but slowly fell into the mid 30s for the daily min, and then stayed around the mid 30s the rest of the day. Dew points were in the 20s all day. The Friday minimum temperature from the VP2 was the same as yesterday (34.3°) but was recorded at 0801 while the maximum temperature (39.1°) was recorded at the very beginning of the day at 0000. Dew point temps ranged from 27° down to 21° . Relative humidity values stayed relatively low all day (64% – 54%). Barometric values were roughly the same as yesterday, ranging from a high of 30.16″ at 0954 down to 30.00″ at 2200.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444.

I am also now on weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115.

I went over the snow measuring guidelines once again, and interacted with Ray and Marty online and over the phone about the guidelines and logistics.

There was a Winter Weather Advisory posted for Saturday for 1-3″ of snow (90 POP) and clouds all day, with highs staying in the mid 30s and lows in the mid 20s. Sunday should be sunny and seasonably cold, with highs in the upper 30s and lows in the mid 20s.

There was no rain/snow in my cocorahs gauge on Friday through midnight. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony also recorded no precipitation through midnight obs on Friday.

December precipitation is 0.19″ through midnight obs Friday.

Year-to-date precipitation total is 38.70″

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded no precipitation through midnight on Friday. They are still reporting 0.22″ of precipitation falling up to this point in December, and a grand total of 39.56″ of rain for the year-to-date value.

Temp from the VP2 at 2400 was 36.3 RH 62% BP 30.01″F DP 24.5. Cloudy and dry at midnight.
