Partly cloudy, cooler AM, a tad warmer, dry update for West Rockville Maryland for Tuesday June 26, 2018
Tuesday was a partly cloudy day with the now usual fair-weather cumulus dotting the sky fairly comfortable light breezes and mostly dry conditions, particularly early in the day. Temperatures fell to the lower-mid 60s in the early AM but rose to the lower 80s by early afternoon, then slowly cooling thereafter into the evening. Overnight into Wednesday skies have clouded up in advance of the 80 POP for thunderstorms during the day from cells still well to our west out in parts of the Midwest. The Tuesday maximum temperature was 81.6° @ 1325, while the Tuesday minimum temperature was 63.5° @ 0618. The dew point temperatures started out in the low 50s but rose into the mid 60s by the afternoon, ranging from a low of 51° @ 0530 up to a high of 66° @ 1622. The barometric pressure rose more over Monday’s values – the highest value being 30.23″ @ 0942 down to a low of 30.13″ @ 2342. The relative humidity lowered quite a bit from yesterday’s, ranging from a low of 47% at 1200 up to a high of 72% at 2038.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Tuesday turned out partly cloudy and dry with highs in the low 80s and lows in the lower-mid 60s but with no trace of rain here at my station. Wednesday should be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s and lows around 70° with an 80 POP for thunderstorms. Thursday should be partly cloudy once again with highs warming up into the upper 80s and lows in the mid-upper 60s with only a 20 POP for a shower. Mostly sunny on Friday with highs in the upper 80s and lows around 70°. Saturday looks to pop the 90° mark into the low 90s with lows in the low 70s under sunny, hot skies. Partly cloudy and even hotter on Sunday, with highs in the mid 90s and lows in the low 70s.
At 0512, Channel 4 radar is showing quite a bit of shower/storm action out to my W/SW in KY, SW VA, WV and TN, heading E/NE.
At 0512, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Cloudy, mild with dew points slowly rising
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Tuesday
VP2 Ground 68.1° 86% 64° 30.08″F NA 81.6°/63.5°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Tuesday. The VP2 tipping bucket had 0.00″.
I think the generally greater amount in the VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge recently has been at least partially due to its proximity to a dense evergreen tree that frequently drips down and then blows the “catch” into the gauge. I mostly use this gauge to tell me when and how hard it rained.
Tuesday’s precipitation was 0.00″
June precipitation 3.76″
Year-to-date precipitation total 22.18″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 68° 80% 62° 30.09″F S 1 G SE 6
140° from station 83°/61°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Tuesday. June total precip is reported as 8.36″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount now at 34.39″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Tuesday night the temperature from the VP2 was 70.2° RH 66% BP 30.13″F DP 58.3°
High clouds, mild, pleasant at 2400 Tuesday
Good morning from the cloudy, mild and slowly dampening home of the Walrus early on this Wednesday.
