Partly cloudy, not as warm, and dry update for West Rockville Maryland for Morday June 25, 2018

Monday had clear skies early, then partly cloudy, fair-weather clouds and comfortable light breezes and slowly dropping dew points for a good start to the workweek. Temperatures held in the upper 60s in the early AM but rose to around the 80° mark by early afternoon, slowly cooling thereafter into the evening. Overnight into Monday skies cleared and cooled into the lower-mid 60s just after sunrise. Temperatures have warmed up into the low 80s with partly cloudy (fair-weather cumulus) skies on Monday afternoon, with no chance of rain. The Monday maximum temperature was 80.7° @ 1345, while the Monday minimum temperature was 67.0° @ 0443. The dew point temperatures started out in the upper 60s but lowered into the upper 50s by days’ end, ranging from a high of 68° @ 0000 down to a low of 58° @ 2358. The barometric pressure rose over Sunday’s values – the lowest value being 29.92″ @ 0050 up to a high of 30.17″ @ 2358. The relative humidity lowered a tad from yesterday’s, ranging from a high of 95% at 0145 down to a low of 56% at 1340.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

It was partly sunny on Monday with mostly fair-weather cumulus dotting the sky with highs in around 80° and lows in the upper-mid 60s. Tuesday turned out partly cloudy with highs around 80° and lows in the mid 60s but with a 40 POP for late evening showers coming up next. Wednesday should be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s and lows around 70° with a 40 POP for scattered thunderstorms. Thursday should be partly cloudy once again with highs warming up into the upper 80s and lows in the mid-upper 60s with only a 20 POP for a shower. Mostly sunny on Friday with highs in the upper 80s and lows around 70°. Saturday looks to pop the 90° mark into the low 90s with lows in the low 70s under sunny, hot skies.

At 1604, WeatherBug radar is showing quite a bit of shower action to my S and SW, over southern VA, much of NC, extending westward into OH, KY and southern WV. It appears to be moving E slowly, but looks like it will move enough north eventually to give us a chance of showers late this evening.

At 1604, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

Partly Cloudy (fluffy fair-weather scattered cumulus plus a few higher cirroform clouds observed in some spots in between/above the cumulus), warm and staying relatively dry

Station Relative Location Temp RH   DP      BP    Wind High/Low temp on Monday
VP2              Ground          81.2° 52% 62° 30.16″F NA     80.7°/67.0°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Monday. The VP2 tipping bucket had 0.03″. There was no rain at the time the bucket tipped, my idea is that someone bumped into the gauge/weather station and it caused the bucket to register. Also, I think the generally greater amount in the VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge recently has been at least partially due to its proximity to a dense evergreen tree that frequently drips down and then blows the “catch” into the gauge. I mostly use this gauge to tell me when and how hard it rained.

Monday’s precipitation was 0.00″
June precipitation 3.76″
Year-to-date precipitation total 22.18″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 81° 42% 56° 30.18″F ESE 6 G SE 12
                              140° from station                      (est) 81°/66°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Sunday. June total precip is now being reported as 8.36″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount now at 34.39″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Monday night the temperature from the VP2 was 70.4° RH 66% BP 30.17″R DP 58.5°
Partly Cloudy, mild, pleasant at 2400 Monday

Good afternoon from the partly cloudy, moderately warm and dry home of the Walrus on Tuesday.
