A cloudy AM, clear and pleasant PM for West Rockville Maryland for Monday June 4, 2018

Monday started out cloudy with a light shower (0.01″) around 0700 and pleasantly cool, with mins falling into the mid 50s. By mid-day the sun was out and the temperature rose through the 50s and 60s into the mid 70s by mid-afternoon under dry, partly cloudy, comfortable skies. Overnight into Tuesday clear skies and cool temperatures were found, temps falling into the mid 50s once again. The Monday maximum temperature was 77.0° @ 1552, while the Monday minimum temperature dropped to 54.6° @ 0441. Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

I talked with Marty early, Robin later, and Ray very late, transcribing a few corrections into his May Climate summary for the NJWO and going over Mt Washington observations and an exciting new development over the broadcast airwaves on NOAA Weather Radio of the Mt Holly (Philadelphia) WFO.

Monday was cloudy and cool early, then cleared up by noon and we had a beautiful partly cloudy, dry afternoon that was not too hot. Overnight into Tuesday has been clear and cool, with min temps falling in the mid 50s once again as we approach sunrise. Tuesday should be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the mid 50s. Wednesday should be mostly cloudy and cooler, with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the mid 50s. Thursday should be partly cloudy with highs in the mid 70s and lows around 60° and dry. Friday should warm up into the low-mid 80s under partly cloudy skies, with lows in the mid 60s. Saturday should warm up a bit more into the mid 80s and mostly cloudy by the afternoon, with a 50 POP for PM thunderstorms with lows in the mid 60s.

The Channel 4 radar at 0523 shows most of the 4 state mid-Atlantic region clear, with just a few scattered showers over western PA at this time. Other areas with widely scattered showers include parts of western NY, OH, IN and lower southern MI (particularly in the Chicago area) at this time.

As of 0523, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

Clear, dry and pleasantly cool

Station Relative Location Temp   RH    DP     BP    Wind High/Low temp on Monday
VP2               Ground       55.5°  92% 53° 29.83″S NA    77.0°/54.6°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.01″ through midnight Monday. The VP2 tipping bucket also recorded 0.01″ of rain.

Monday’s precipitation was 0.01″
May precipitation total 6.68″
June precipitation is now 1.72″
Year-to-date precipitation total is 20.14″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 55° 98% 54° 29.81″R W 2 G W 2
                            140° from station                    78°/54°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of precipitation on Monday. June is now showing 4.29″ for the month with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount now at 30.32″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Monday night the temperature from the VP2 was 63.7° RH 76% BP 29.83″F DP 56.0°
Clear, cool, and dry at 2400 Monday

Good morning from the clear, cool, and dry home of the walrus early on this Tuesday. I now should be caught up but at what price? I mean, I probably made some errors, I would appreciate it if you all would let me know if you see anything amiss with my post. Thanks!
