Partly cloudy, cold AM, milder PM update for West Rockville Maryland on Saturday, March 10 2018

On Saturday, we had plenty of sun at times (see today’s featured image taken during my GLOBE observations in the late morning of a solitary cumulus cloud (enlarged) in the otherwise clear sky at the time) but generally partly cloudy skies and colder early AM temperatures and milder afternoon temperatures than yesterday. A clear, colder evening, with temps eventually falling below freezing but not till way after midnight obs into now the Daylight Savings Time hours of Sunday. Time references in this post will be in Eastern Standard Time except where so indicated as being in Daylight Savings Time values, so indicated by “(DST)”. Mid 40s was reached by later afternoon after upper 20s mins were reached in the early AM. The Saturday maximum temperature from the VP2 (47.2°) was recorded at 1620 while the minimum temperature (28.3°) was recorded at 0357. Dew point temperatures continued relatively low, ranging from a high of 25° at 1220 down to a low of 19° at 0000. Relative humidity values also stayed relatively low all day (73% – 36%). Barometric values raised a bit today, ranging from an early high of 30.11″ at 0824 down to a low of 29.97″ later at 1526.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444.

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115. Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge.

I talked with Ray in the evening, and he ordered yet another weather station through me, this time an Ambient Weather WS-2902 from Amazon that he should get on Monday.  I did some science fair data base, email, and mailing work – along with receiving 75 more AMS Award Certificates which we award to deserving students who participate at the local science fairs. Somewhat discouraging is the current lack of the “traditional” style of science fair weather project of yesteryear, and more in the line of environmental testing, pollution monitoring, etc sort of project. There still are a lot of very bright students out there, and they are presenting outstanding projects that they know and discuss so well. So that is definitely encouraging for the future of our sciences.

It was partly sunny and cold in the early AM on Saturday but moderating some in the afternoon, with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the upper 20s. Sunday is starting out clear and cold with low temps in the mid 20s, then warming up under mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 40s and lows around 30°. Monday should be mostly cloudy and cold with high temps around 40° and lows in the upper 20s with a 50 POP for PM rain and snow showers as our next potential storm track looks wavering at this point, unfortunately probably tracking to the S and E with an additional problem of a lack of cold air and moisture to fuel a big storm. Tuesday should be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 20s. Wednesday should be mostly cloudy and a bit colder with highs around 40° and lows in the mid 20s. Thursday looks to start warming up under partly cloudy skies, with highs in the upper 40s and lows around 30°
