Mostly sunny, drying out, seasonably cold, lighter winds update for West Rockville Maryland on Sunday, March 4 2018
On Sunday, storm conditions really went away for the most part, with bright, sunny skies, seasonably cold temps in the mid-upper 40s, and lighter winds than we have been having. The region is still recovering from our weekend windstorm, with areas without power, continued blocked roads from downed trees, and damaged houses and structures from the wind. But with the improving conditions on Sunday, recovery efforts were accelerated. After early AM lows in the low 30s, high temps reached the mid-upper 40s by early afternoon. The Sunday maximum temperature from the VP2 (47.8°) was recorded at 1358 while the minimum temperature (31.2°) was recorded at 0702. Dew point temperatures remained relatively low all day, plunging into the teens late in the day, ranging from a low of 11° at 2325 up to a high of 29° at 0953. Relative humidity values lowered today (76% – 28%). Barometric values leveled off on Sunday, ranging from a high of 30.29″ at 0813 down to a low of 30.18″ at 1618.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444.
I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115. Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I was not able to post to any of these internet apps for Thursday, but have done so now, completing the efforts with the posting of this email.
I worked on my January data some, referring it back to my excel expert Lowell for final fixup/production. I also did some science fair updating, including changes in the schedule from this past weekend as the windstorm’s affects caused cancellation of one fair and changed the date for another by a week. Our volunteer judge who was going to judge that fair now cannot judge at it with the date change to March 10. I also put out a few communicative emails out to the volunteers with new updates.
We had mostly sunny skies on Sunday with some high wind gusts at times, mostly early, but gradually all day the winds lessened and there were no more power or cable or internet problems in my apartment complex that I know of. Temperatures rebounded into the mid-upper 40s in the early-mid afternoon after a low 30s start in the early AM. Monday should be seasonably cold and sunny with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 20s, then rain showers should be returning on Tuesday (50 POP for PM showers) with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 30s. Wednesday will once again be cloudy with a 60 POP for rain showers, highs in the low-mid 40s and lows in the upper 20s. Partly cloudy and a bit colder on Thursday, with highs in the low 40s and lows in the mid-upper 20s.
On the Channel 4 weather website at 0714 radar is showing a small area of rain out in the Ocean off Cape Cod, and a strong looking front running SSE- NNW bending more NW in the northern Plains, where the rain is changing to snow. It starts in MS/AL and western TN, heading NNW then NW, changing to snow over parts of MN, NE, IA and the Dakotas at this time (they heading into the Prairie provinces of our friendly Canadian neighbors to our north. This precipitation should reach our area later in the week.
