A sunny, warmer, dry weather update for West Rockville Maryland on Friday June 9, 2017

Friday was a mostly sunny, warmer and dry day. I think I have solved my problem I reported yesterday. First at least on Friday things got normalized in the gauge as nothing was in it, and it definitely did not rain. The 0.03″ on Wednesday was I believe rain. The 0.02″ on Thursday appears to have been dew condensation that should not have been reported as precipitation so I will revise my records accordingly. I did locate sprinkler heads on the grounds within 20-25 feet of my gauge, so it is conceivable that I will have to deal with collection of that type of water, which of course is not precipitation that I should be recording. High temperatures rose today with plenty of sun coming through most of the day (there was some scattered fair weather cumulus in the afternoon at times) with temperatures topping off around 80° after one more early AM min in the 50s. At about 0500 we have clear skies with temperatures in the low-mid 60s. The minimum temperature (57.3°) was recorded at 0548 right around sunrise and the maximum temperature (78.8°) was recorded at 1619. Dew point temperatures started to rise a bit today, ranging from 58° to 51°. Relative humidity values lowered a bit today (80% – 39%). Barometric values lowered a bit from yesterday, ranging from 29.96″ at 2349 to 29.79″ at 0343.

I got up in the early afternoon to take a shower and take a few phone calls before the weekly rummikub game at 3. also got a delivery from Tracy through Mike of some goodies from Tracy – orzo salad and her homemade Maryland Crab soup. He delivered it while I was playing. I gave him my apt key and he put it in the refrigerator. Very much appreciated! For a late brunch I had the orzo soup with a bit of seafood salad along with some coffee after rummikub. I worked on email and regular mail that I fetched on the way back up to my apt. I also got a small grocery order from Fresh Direct and put that all away by around 6 PM. I got a Taylor Max/Min thermometer in the mail that I ordered earlier in the week, and got it working after a bit of a struggle to get the units (remote and base) open to install the AAA batteries. The sensor is out on the balcony on top of the VP2 shield temporarily. My friend Rick H came over and he checked it all out and took the radiation shield for this Taylor unit to clean it up (pretty dirty – I have pictures to prove how dirty it is if anyone wants to see them). I had a nice visit from Rick talking weather instruments, watching a bit of the Yankees/Orioles game and talking with our mutual friend Marty using the speaker in my cell phone . After Rick left, I heated up the Crab soup, which was delicious – plenty left over BTW, and reheated half the lasagna I made earlier in the week in the microwave and it was also very delicious. There is still one more dinner left with the remaining portion. I watched some basketball after the Yanks/Orioles game finished (won by the Yanks 8-2 BTW) and worked a bit on my second grocery order, coming between 1600 and 2000 on Saturday. I also had some hot and spicy low sodium V8 before dinner. I took a blurry low-res picture of the full Strawberry moon around 2130 (see picture above). I also drank a good part of my ginormous water bottle throughout the evening and early morning hours.

We now have clear skies with scattered cumulus spotting the sky with temperatures in the low-mid 60s at 0500. Saturday climbs into the upper 80s with lows in the mid 60s under sunny skies with a few scattered clouds around that will lead into maximum temps in the mid 90s on Sunday with lows in the mid 60s under sunny skies. Monday and Tuesday should also have highs in the mid 90s under sunny skies with just a few scattered clouds from time to time, with increasing humidity. Lows will be in the upper 60s to around 70°. This past week’s weather will sure be better than next week!

According to Channel 4 radar, there are a few scattered showers in parts of PA and NY at this time, not headed for our area.

As of 0540 EDT, my balcony data including my new Taylor thermometer, the USG station across the street, and the Lakewood Country Club WXBug station is:

Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp today
VP2 Balcony 64.4 75 57 29.97S N/A 78.8/57.3 Taylor thermometer now at 62.2

There was no rain in my gauge today (cocorahs gauge on ground to the side of my building). I have concluded that the 0.02″ for Thursday that I suspiciously reported was dew condensation and not reportable precipitation. I have adjusted the records for monthly and YTD precipitation below.
June precipitation is 0.16″. Year-to-date (YTD) precipitation total is 16.37″

VP2 Across the street (USG) 64.3 79 58 30.01S N/A 80.5/56.9
There was no rain recorded in the USG gauge on Thursday.

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 63 73.3 54.5 29.98S SSW 1 G SSW 6
140° from station 80/55

The Lakewood rain gauge also recorded no rainfall today.

Temp on the balcony at 2400 was 69.1 RH 60% BP 29.96R DP 55.1 Taylor thermometer had a temp of 66.9.

Good morning from the clear, dry, starting-to-warm up Walrus early on this Saturday morning.
