A partly cloudy, milder, dry weather update for West Rockville Maryland on Thursday June 8, 2017

Thursday was a partly cloudy, milder, dry day. I have a problem. I really don’t believe it rained, but I had 0.02″ in my cocorahs rain gauge when I checked it at midnight obs earlier tonight.  I have my doubts on the 0.03″ that I reported yesterday.  I need to contact my fellow local observer friends and discuss this with them. A possibility is that a sprinkler went off the past two days. I have to work this out.  High temperatures rose a bit today with plenty of sun coming through most of the day with temperatures topping off in the low 70s. At about 0500 we have fair skies with temperatures in the mid 50s. The minimum temperature (53.8°) was recorded at 0558 right after sunrise and the maximum temperature (71.9°) was recorded at 1648. Dew point temperatures dropped a bit today, ranging from 55° to 47°. Relative humidity values lowered today (88% – 42%).  Barometric values were about the same as yesterday, ranging from 30.05″ at 0028 to 29.82″ at 2007.

Remember that you now can get the balcony location data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444

I got up in the early afternoon after phone calls from Tracy and my old friend Steve out in California. For a late brunch I had my last banana and cereal along with a cup of coffee. I worked on some medical issues and other personal items. A bit later on I made a pastrami sandwich along with the last of most of the salad fixins’. I didn’t have to chop so much tonight- just mushrooms and radishes. I also had some hot and spicy low sodium V8 before dinner. I continued to work a bit more on the newly “hatched” Weatherquack weather website which should be fun in the coming months. I hope some of you out there will join in the fun – it is completely free and easy to use once you complete your registration and a short ramping up period.  I finished up on a few grocery delivery orders that will be coming late Friday and Saturday.  I also drank a good part of my ginormous water bottle throughout the evening and early morning hours.

We now have fair skies with a few scattered high clouds spotting the sky with temperatures in the mid 50s at 0500.   Friday starts a significant warmup with sunny skies and a high temp around 80° and a low around 60°. Saturday climbs into the upper 80s with lows in the mid 60s under sunny skies with a few scattered clouds around that will lead into maximum temps in the mid 90s on Sunday with lows in the mid 60s under sunny skies. Monday and Tuesday should also have highs in the mid 90s under sunny skies with just a few scattered clouds from time to time, with increasing humidity. Lows will be in the upper 60s to low 70s. This past week sure beats next week!

According to Channel 4 radar, there are a few scattered showers over upstate NY, and mostly offshore off the Massachusetts to Maine coast as that potential Noreaster mostly stayed out in the Atlantic Ocean.

As of 0534 EDT, my balcony data, the USG station across the street, and the Lakewood Country Club WXBug station is:

Station     Relative Location      Temp    RH    DP         BP        Wind   High/Low temp today
VP2                 Balcony                57.4    80    53       29.79S    N/A    71.9/53.8

There was 0.02″ of rain in my gauge today (cocorahs gauge on ground to the side of my building). I have serious doubts that this actually was rain. I will issue a correction if it turns out to be erroneous.

June precipitation is 0.18″ (tentatively).  Year-to-date (YTD) precipitation total is tentatively 16.39″

VP2  Across the street (USG)     56.9     85    53      29.83S    N/A   76.9/54.2

There was no rain recorded in the USG gauge on Thursday.

WX Bug     Lakewood 4500 ft,      56     78.3   49.6   29.80S    WSW 4  G WSW 8
140° from station                                                               73/53

The Lakewood rain gauge also recorded no rainfall today.

Temp on the balcony at 2400 was 63.0 RH 67% BP 29.83S  DP 52.3

Good morning from the clear, dry, relatively cool Walrus early on this Friday morning.

  1. Kevin, Dew will do it….Its been heavy here the past couple of mornings and I’ve found water in my gauge….0.02″ yesterday and 0.01″ today. My leaf wetness high today was 15…that’s the max reading…so you know there was a lot of dew this morning…I see odd readings on CoCo and often think dew is getting reported by mistake….I would also think a sprinkler would dump more water in the gauge then that…
