A milder, partly to mostly cloudy update for West Rockville Maryland on Monday, December 18 2017

Monday was a partly to mostly cloudy, milder day. I remained above freezing overnight. Temps warmed into the mid 50s in the mid-afternoon, then dropped off a bit but was still in the mid-upper 40s by midnight obs time. The Monday minimum temperature from the VP2 (33.7°) was recorded at 0739 while the maximum temperature (54.3°) was recorded at 1453. Dew point temps ranged from 31° at 0656 up to 41° at 1549. Relative humidity values rose a bit from yesterday’s values (92% – 59%). Barometric values lowered from yesterday, ranging from a high of 30.17″ at 0000 down to 30.00″ later at 1756.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444.

I am also now on weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115. Please take note that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge.

Partly cloudy with highs in the upper 50s on Tuesday. Lows should only be in the upper 30s. Wednesday and Thursday should cool down somewhat into the mid 40s for highs, partly cloudy on Wednesday and sunny on Thursday, with lows both days in the mid-upper 20s. Partly cloudy and milder on Friday, with highs in the low 50s, lows in the mid 40s. Then Saturday milder still with highs approaching 60° despite cloudy skies and an 80 POP for rain.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 0417 radar is showing some small areas of rain and rain showers in parts of PA, roughly 100 miles north of the DC area. The rain areas appear to be moving due east, so should stay north of my area.

As of 0417, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows :

Station Relative Location Temp RH DP    BP      Wind   High/Low temp today
VP2             Ground           43.2  83  38 30.01S   NA         54.3/33.7

There was no melted precipitation in the cocorahs gauge on Monday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony registered no precipitation on Monday through midnight.

December precipitation is 0.43″ through midnight obs Monday.

December snowfall is now 3.3″. The seasonal snowfall total is 3.3″.

Year-to-date precipitation total is 38.94″

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded no precipitation through midnight on Monday. They are now reporting 0.60″ of precipitation falling up to this point in December, and a grand total of 39.94″ of rain for the year-to-date value. That is a gain of 0.01″ from what they reported on Sunday. Further study and research will have to be done to figure out where these only partially accounted for amounts are coming from.

Temp from the VP2 at 2400 was 47.5 RH 77% BP 30.01S DP 40.6. Mostly cloudy, mild but dry

Good morning from the mostly cloudy, mild, snow-less Walrus early on this Tuesday morning.
