FEBRUARY 21-29, 2020 – DRY, MILD START, MILDER MIDDLE THEN TURNING WET AND THEN COLDER TOWARDS THE END OF THE PERIOD, HIGHLIGHTED BY THE COLDEST DAY OF THE MONTH ON THE LAST DAY OF THE PERIOD AT WEST ROCKVILLE MARYLAND

FEBRUARY 21-29, 2020 – DRY, MILD START, MILDER MIDDLE THEN TURNING WET AND THEN COLDER TOWARDS THE END OF THE PERIOD, HIGHLIGHTED BY THE COLDEST DAY OF THE MONTH ON THE LAST DAY OF THE PERIOD AT WEST ROCKVILLE MARYLAND

Continuing with the roughly 10 day shorter summaries (leap year made thi period a 9 day one to close out the month) to cover a general period of more or less similar weather patterns, a mixture of mild and somewhat cold, and dry or wet throughout the  period. We had 0.90 inches total of rainfall during this period and I finished up with 3.27 inches of precipitation for the month of February and 6.29 inches for the year through February 29. We did have a more notable 7 days with min temperatures at or below the freezing mark (extreme low 21.9 degrees on the 21st.) The highest temperature of this period was 63.5 degrees on the 24th.

There were some flurries in the area at the end of the month but I personally did not observe any. and there is none on the March horizon either unfortunately. So far this season I have a whopping 3.0 inches of snow.

The colder days at the end of the month featured higher winds/lower wind chill temperatures. The greatest peak wind gust (PWG) during the period was 51 MPH from the W on February 27. The last 4 days of the month all had PWG over 30 MPH. 

No severe weather was encountered this entire time period. The coldest max temperature of the period and actually the entire month of February was registered on the last day of the month, “Leap Day” or February 29, with a reading of 34.3 degrees.

Relatively mild and clear early on this Monday morning, as the current temperature is 36.6 degrees at 0253. Sunny and milder on Monday, then rain and still mild on Tuesday as it looks now. Sunday was a nice day, milder than Saturday.
