Tuesday was our first sunny day since last Wednesday, but the day started out before sunrise with widely varying temperatures being reported in my immediate area, dependent on elevation, exposure and topographic nature of each reporting site. Some areas had frost/freezing conditions with temps in the upper 20s-lower 30s, then places like me missed out on freezing temps, holding in the mid 30s after falling off fairly quickly earlier. High temps reached the mid 50s by mid-afternoon, but then didn’t drop off as much in the evening and overnight into Wednesday. The Tuesday maximum temperature from the VP2 (55.1°) was recorded at 1553 while the minimum temperature (34.3°) was recorded early at 0255. Dew point temperatures dropped all day, ranging from a high of 31° at 0955 down to a low of 22° late at 1545. Relative humidity values were quite a bit lower today, particularly in the mid-afternoon (79% – 27%). I spoke at some length with Marty about some aspects of the GLOBE program and other current weather topics, but no word from Ray. I got quite a bit more of DC-AMS Chapter Science Fair work done, including the mailing of 2 groups of award certificates to 2 of our volunteer judges for science fairs coming up this weekend and next. I put out another update email, in trying to get more key fair judging positions filled, but to no avail so far. I also did quite a bit of email work.

We had all that sun for most all of Tuesday, with temperatures rising into the mid 50s. Overnight into Wednesday has not been as cold as the previous night, as temps have remained in the low 40s through 0500 and clouds have returned. Wednesday should be partly cloudy, with highs around 60° and lows in the mid 40s. On Thursday rain showers (now down to a 70 POP from 90 yesterday) are expected to return just in time for the monthly changeover from February to March, with high temps in the low 50s and lows in the upper 30s. Friday looks colder and windier with dry conditions returning with high temps in the low-mid 40s and lows in the low 30s. Saturday should be partly cloudy and not quite as chilly but still windy, with highs about 50° and lows around 30°. Sunday should be sunny with lessening winds, temps similar to Saturday.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 0546 radar is showing showers (our Thursday rain) building in the lower Midwest, over much of TN and parts of KY, plus a small area of showers over parts of NE Illinois and N Indiana, heading east.
