Tuesday was a mostly sunny, still milder day. It was the second warmest day of the month, only surpassed by a 57.7° max on December 5. I once again remained above freezing overnight, only dropping into the upper-low 40s. Temps warmed in the strong sun into the upper-mid 50s in the mid-afternoon, then dropped off a bit but was still in the mid 40s by midnight obs time. The Tuesday minimum temperature from the VP2 (43.1°) was recorded at 0305 while the maximum temperature (56.7°) was recorded at 1342. Dew point temps didn’t vary much today, only ranging from 38° at 0226 up to 42° at 0915. Relative humidity values lowered a bit from yesterday’s values (84% – 50%). Barometric values also lowered a bit from yesterday, ranging from a high of 30.04″ at 0917 down to 29.87″ later at 2319.

Mostly cloudy and still quite mild in the early morning hours of Wednesday, with temps still in the mid 40s. Wednesday and Thursday should cool down somewhat into the mid 40s for highs, partly cloudy on Wednesday and sunny on Thursday, with lows both days in the mid-upper 20s. Partly cloudy and milder on Friday, with highs in the low 50s, lows in the mid 40s. Then Saturday even milder with highs in the upper 50s despite cloudy skies and a 70 POP for rain. Christmas Eve Sunday at this point looks to partially clear up with highs in the mid 40s and lows around the freezing mark.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 0718 radar is showing a good batch of rain running east-west through southern VA, much of NC and TN, and southern KY at this time. The current flow shows that this rain will continue to track basically due east, and therefore stay south of our Metro DC area.

There was no melted precipitation in the cocorahs gauge on Tuesday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony registered no precipitation on Tuesday through midnight.

The Lakewood rain gauge reported no new precipitation through midnight on Tuesday. However, they are now reporting 0.82″ of precipitation falling up to this point in December, and a grand total of 41.60″ of rain for the year-to-date value. This is getting ludicrous and until I figure it out I will suspend reporting these MTD and YTD statistics.
