WEST ROCKVILLE MARYLAND WEATHER UPDATE – MONDAY JUNE 21, 2021
Monday was hot and humid once again with highs in the low 90s reached by mid afternoon. Mostly cloudy skies was the norm during most the PM hours. Storm chances increased today as cumulus were building into cumulus congestus first then a rather large cumulonimbus complex (as viewed on the mid-Atlantic Satellite image) by late afternoon. Vivid lightning, rumbling thunder, high winds and brief heavy rain (0.25″) (Max Rain Rate or MRR was recorded at 1758 on the USG site across the street of 3.97″/hr) was observed between 1725 and 1815. Some light rain also fell much later just prior to midnight (0.05″) and fog at times during the muggy, cool evening.
Minimum temps were warmer again today and the actual lowest temp of the day was reached just prior to midnight. Dew points increased some from yesterday, lowest during the late afternoon storm (upper 60s) to the highest (mid 70s) reached in the late morning hours.
The winds peaked dramatically at the onset of the late afternoon thunderstorm (45 MPH from the NW at 1730). Barometric pressures were highest at the very beginning of the day and lowest in the late afternoon just before the thunderstorm hit.
Cooler max temps in the 70s and lows in the low-mid 50s with mostly cloudy skies and rain showers on Tuesday associated with a strong cold front which should bring us cooler, relatively nice days on Wednesday and Thursday with highs of 75-80 and lows in the mid to upper 50s under mostly sunny skies.
