JUNE 21-30, 2020 – WARM AND HUMID AND MOSTLY DRY WITH ONLY A FEW THUNDERSTORMS UPDATE FOR WEST ROCKVILLE MARYLAND

Our wetter patterns from earlier in the month “washed out” a bit during this end of the month period with only 2 significantly rainy days (both featuring
thunderstorms) with warm, increasingly more humid days and milder nights taking over. 80s max temps prevailed on all days, with 60s mins on the first 7 days of the period turning into low 70s mins on the last 3 days of the month. We had three total measurable rainfall days (1.17″) during the period along with partially cloudy skies on all of the 10 day period.

We now had a final total of 6.66 inches of rain in June and 23.42 inches for the year through June 30. The minimum temperature for this period was only 62.2° on the 26th. During this latest 10 day period the highest temperature reached was technically a 90° reading when you round the 89.5° on the 22nd to the nearest whole degree.

Daily precip, max/min temperature values, general sky condition, and Peak Wind Gust (PWG) for each day of the period include:

6/21 0.00 84.4 66.6 P Cloudy, seasonably warm – 16 W

6/22 0.43 89.5 69.3 P Cloudy, very warm, mid-afternoon thunderstorm – 42 NW

6/23 0.00 87.4 67.1 P Cloudy, light AM fog, quite warm but dry – 20 W

6/24 0.00 83.7 69.0 P Cloudy, dry a bit cooler – 24 NW

6/25 0.71 83.9 63.4 P Cloudy, seasonably warm, early evening thunderstorm                                               (1800-1845) – 37 NW

6/26 0.03 87.3 62.2 P Cloudy, early AM shower, a bit warmer – 19 W

6/27 0.00 88.7 69.7 P Cloudy, very warm, more humid – 25 W

6/28 0.00 85.8 71.7 P Cloudy, humid, warm especially overnight – 25 W

6/29 0.00 89.2 70.6 P Cloudy, very warm – 21 NW

6/30 0.00 87.6 71.2 P Cloudy, very warm, a bit less humid – 19 NW

The 3 measurable rainfall days fell during the beginning and middle part of the period. The heat has turned on as we start July, anly 0.15″ of rain early on the 1st has been our only rain over the past week spanning very late June into early July. Soil moisture has not become critically low yet, but if our heat wave keeps up for as long as some are saying, it could bear some close watching and concern.

The current temperature is 74.5 degrees at 0630 on July 4 with clear, dry skies. The temperature should be rising into the 90s again today as it did yesterday when a high of 92.9° was reached, our hottest of the season so far.
