JUNE 12-20, 2020 – MILD, DRY FIRST HALF, HUMID, WET SECOND HALF UPDATE FOR WEST ROCKVILLE MARYLAND
Our wetter patterns during the beginning of June resumed from the 17th-20th after a five day stretch of cool, cloudy, dry, rather pleasant weather conditions from the 13th-16th. 70s max temps prevailed on most days, with only 2 days reaching the 80s. Thunderstorms marked the afternoons of the 19th-20th. We had four measurable rainfall days (total of 1.56″) during the 9 day period along with at least partially cloudy skies on 7 of the 8 days.
We have already had a total of 5.46 inches of rain in June and 22.25 inches for the year through June 20. The minimum temperature for this period was only 59.1° on the 15th, possibly the last sub 60° min for a while. During this latest 9 day period the highest temperature reached was only 84.4° on the 12th, suppressed for the most part due to the persistent easterly flow during several days during the period. There was only 1 sunny day during the period, with 3 partly and 5 cloudy days.

The 4 measurable rainfall days fell towards the end of the period. Dew points rose correspondingly. Soil moisture remains at good levels with local vegetation lush and green.
The current temperature is 75.9 degrees at 1157 on June 21 with partly cloudy skies. The temperature is on the rise today into the 80s with continued partly sunny skies and an 80% chance of thunderstorms later this afternoon, with building heat and raising dew points fueling more thunderstorm chances during the early part of the coming week.
