Mostly sunny, still pleasantly cool especially in the AM, still dry update for Friday, September 20, 2019 from West Rockville Maryland

Mostly sunny, pleasantly cool in the AM, a bit warmer afternoon and evening, still dry for Friday. High temps were in the upper mid 70s in the late afternoon, after early morning temps around 50, lowest of the season so far as we enter astronomical Fall this weekend. Dew point temperatures were at their lowest (mid 40s) during the overnight, then rose gradually through the day to the mid 50s by late evening.

The maximum temperature was 77.7 degrees at 1706.

The minimum temperature was 50.2 degrees at 0632 as personally observed on my VP2 display in real time.        (52.8 degrees at 0505 reported by wxlink)

The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 46 degrees @ 0002 up to a high of 55 degrees @ 2252.

The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 81% @ 0508 down to a low of 39% @ 1451.

The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.34 inches @ 0846 down to a low of 30.21 inches @ 1751.

There was no precipitation on Friday so the monthly total is still 0.42 inches. The year-to-date total is 38.08 inches. We are still quite dry around here with only small chances for a shower late on Monday.

My current online data is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called Gardens of Traville. Data is online, available in real-time as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is:

Unfortunately a late development discovered very recently is a discrepancy between my wxlink data and my VP2 display data. As noted above, the low temperature for Friday came in as 50.2 degrees as I saw it in real time on my VP2 display, but on other sources tied in with wxlink I had a low of 52.8. Other variables also were a bit different. I don’t understand this discrepancy which I just noticed the past few days. Also noticed is the re-appearance of wind data for my station in wxlink (and therefore also in my weather underground data).

I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 and can be found on the web at https://www.cocorahs.org

Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values on most days (when I have had rain that is) so should not be used except for general precipitation timing.

I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my official precipitation total each day. I haven’t been able to do this much most of this month unfortunately since no rain has fallen from the sky.

Friday was another day of rest till late afternoon. Before I crashed in the morning, I had a brand new kind of bagel which needed to be defrosted in the microwave first so I could slice it and toast it on the foreman. I filled it with some new Fresh Direct smoked salmon cream cheese. It was really yummy. I went down in the early evening for our usual weekly rummikub game. We had two tables of players, one with 4, and the other with 3. I did win a good share of games. I returned to my apartment around 2030 and watched some of the USC 30 Utah 23 upset and Boise State 30 Air Force 19 games. I microwaved a pablano pepper and cheese enchilada plus a pesto tortellini bowl by Amy’s for dinner, along with my usual spicy low-sodium V8 to wash it all down.

I watched the last of the dying out tropical activity. The remnants of tropical system Imelda continues to flood parts of Texas but has moved north and got caught up with a cold front from the NW and is dissipating as a tropical system.  Hurricane Humberto moved on the usual death of tropical systems in the colder waters of the North Atlantic. Hurricane Jerry was downgraded late to tropical storm status, moving well north of the Bahamas and headed towards Bermuda and then on to the North Atlantic graveyard for tropical systems. Unless something surprisingly develops out of these dying systems, I won’t report on them any more.

Saturday has been sunny and much warmer after one more pleasant early morning with lows in the mid 50s. Highs have reached the mid 80s.

Sunday should warm up a bit more with mostly sunny skies and overnight temps in the low 60s. High temps will reach to around 90.

Monday should be partly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower late, highs around 90 with lows in the mid-upper 60s.

Tuesday and Wednesday should be partly to mostly sunny with a return to more seasonable high temps around 80 and lows in the mid-upper 50s.

On Midnight Friday the temperature was 64.1 degrees, relative humidity 72%, pressure rising at 30.24 inches with the dew point temperature at 55 degrees under clear skies.

Currently at 1710 Saturday afternoon the temperature is 83.0 degrees under mostly sunny skies, relative humidity at 55%, barometric pressure falling at 30.17 inches, and the dew point temperature at 65 degrees.

Good afternoon from the walrus on this sunny, warmer Saturday.
