Partly to mostly cloudy, still hot and very humid with rain and cooler temps on my doorstep update for Sunday, July 21 and Monday, July 22 2019 for West Rockville Maryland
Back on the 2 for 1 deal again today, as some active weather took hold the past few days ..
Sunday was another hot one, as my 96.5 degree high today was the hottest (so far) temp of the summer, barely eeking by the 96.4 degree high I had back on the 17th. I now have had 12 days with maxs (rounded to the nearest whole degree) of 90 or greater this July, and 19 for the year. Sunday was partly cloudy with numerous rumbles of thunder from nearby storms that never dumped any measurable rain at my station all day. High temps were in the mid 90s and lows were in the sultry mid-upper 70s. both in the early AM and late PM An excessive heat warning was issued for our area during the hotter afternoon part of the day once again. Dew points remained high all day, after the early AM values in the low 70s, rose for a second day in a row up to the very oppressive 80 degree mark occasionally around mid-day. Clouds and the thunderstorm threat managed to work the dew point temps down during the evening, down into the upper 60s for our daily min value.
The maximum temperature was 96.5 degrees at 1659.
The maximum heat index temperature was 116 degrees at 1656.
The minimum temperature was 76.4 degrees at 2354.
The dew point temperatures ranged from a high of 80 degrees @ 1219 down to a low of 69 degrees @ 2034.
The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 86% @ 0646 down to a low of 52% @ 1538.
The barometric pressure ranged from a low of 29.83 inches @ 1721 up to a high of 29.93 inches @ 1950.
There was no precipitation on Sunday. There has been a total of 5.97 inches of rain so far in July. The year-to-date total is 28.63 inches.
Monday was partly to mostly cloudy, still hot and humid but starting to change late in the day with a good cloud cover and rain threatening once again, but holding off till just after midnight (hence being recorded on Tuesday). High temps only reached the low 90s due to the later in the day cloud cover putting a lid on rising temps for the day. I have now hit 90 or above 13 days during July and 20 days for the year. Dew points remained high once again, but at least they didn’t reach that 80 mark like the previous 2 days did. After the early AM values in the low 70s, the dew point rose into the upper 70s by mid-afternoon. The clouds and somewhat cooler air worked in during the evening hours and the dew point lowered to the 70 degree mark by observation time.
The maximum temperature was 91.9 degrees at 1435.
The minimum temperature was 72.6 degrees at 0615.
The dew point temperatures ranged from a high of 78 degrees @ 1504 down to a low of 70 degrees @ 2356.
The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 92% @ 0559 down to a low of 56% @ 1437.
The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 29.90 inches @ 0018 down to a low of 29.76 inches @ 2119.
There was no measurable precipitation on Monday. There has been a total of 5.97 inches of rain so far in July.
The year-to-date total is 28.63 inches.
My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, available in real-time as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 and can be found on the web at https://www.cocorahs.org
Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values every day of late so should not be used except for general precipitation timing.
I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Sunday was a day of rest and staying out of the heat. I snacked on some barbecue party leftovers and made a delicious stuffed shells dinner and a salad for dinner. I watched some baseball and Hallmark Christmas in July movies to see snow and think cool thoughts. Monday I had cereal, bananas and milk for brunch and baked some chicken with assorted vegetables and four cheese rice a roni for dinner. I tried to catch up on some cleaning and worked a lot on the computer with my weather data and observations and other things. I chatted with Robin and Gideon on face time occasionally during the two day period plus other friends at times.
It has been a cloudy, much cooler Tuesday, with early heavy rain between 0130 and 0230 that woke me up – it had been predicted with a flood watch till 0600. Temps have held in the 60s and 70s all day, breaking the latest heat wave, stopping the streak at 7 straight (rounded) 90 or greater max temps. It has not rained since that very early AM downburst, though the skies have remained dark gray most of the day
Wednesday through Sunday should be sunny to partly cloudy, fairly pleasant, with highs in the low 80s on Wednesday, lows in the low-mid 60s, gradually warming during the period up to 90 degrees by Sunday, with lows in the upper 60s in the relatively dry air. It will be a nice break to the heat wave most of the week and will be welcome to all.
Midnight Monday recorded a temperature of 75.3 degrees, relative humidity 84%, pressure falling at 29.79 inches and the dew point temperature at 70.1 degrees under cloudy skies.
Currently at 1726 the temperature is 74.8 degrees under cloudy skies, relative humidity at 73%, barometric pressure steady at 29.89 inches, and the dew point temperature at 66 degrees.
Good early evening from the walrus on this cloudy Tuesday.
