Sunny, hotter, very humid update for Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20 2019 for West Rockville Maryland
I am back on the 2 for 1 deal today, as the heat has gotten to me. A busy Friday wiped me out (details below).
Friday warmed up under mostly sunny, humid, hot conditions that have strongly continued our July heat wave, with high temps in the mid 90s and lows in the sultry mid 70s. An excessive heat warning was issued for our area during the hotter afternoon part of the day, extending into the evening. Dew points remained high all day, after the early AM min in the low 70s, rising into the upper 70s by mid-day once again and staying that way the rest of the afternoon, only falling into the mid 70s by late evening.
The maximum temperature was 95.3 degrees at 1632.
The minimum temperature was 75.1 degrees at 0604.
The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 72 degrees @ 0550 up to a high of 79 degrees @ 1255.
The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 90% @ 0410 down to a low of 53% @ 1720.
The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 29.97 inches @ 0945 down to a low of 29.88 inches @ 1750.
There was no precipitation on Friday. There has been a total of 5.97 inches of rain so far in July. The year-to-date total is 28.63 inches.
Saturday warmed up a tad from Friday under partly sunny (greater amount of cumulus cloud buildups during most of the afternoon), very humid, hot conditions that kept our July heat wave going strong, with high temps in the mid 90s once again and lows in the muggy mid 70s. Dew points remained high all day, after the early AM min in the low 70s, rose to the 80 mark by mid-day. I have been flirting with that 80 mark several times over the past few weeks, but this is the first time I have made it to that obnoxious 80 mark all year. The dew points slumped only a bit by midnight into the lower mid 70s. The heat index temperature maxed out at 113.8 degrees at 1445. An excessive heat warning was in effect most of the day, usually marked by heat indices of over 110 degrees.
The maximum temperature was 95.5 degrees at 1532.
The minimum temperature was 76.1 degrees at 0526.
The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 73 degrees @ 0348 up to a high of 80 degrees @ 1051.
The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 91% @ 0623 down to a low of 55% @ 1515.
The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 29.96 inches @ 1102 down to a low of 29.84 inches @ 1628.
There was no precipitation on Saturday. A surprise pop-up storm in the evening caused severe storm warnings to be posted for parts of northern VA and Washington DC, but the storm stayed just south of my location and weakened after it left the District limits. There has been a total of 5.97 inches of rain so far in July. The year-to-date total is 28.63 inches.
My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, available in real-time as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 and can be found on the web at https://www.cocorahs.org
Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values every day of late so should not be used except for general precipitation timing.
I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Friday was a busy day that I had to somewhat endure outside to get through with all the activity. My apartment complex had a barbecue cook out, as burgers, hot dogs, and chicken were grilled outside and brought into our party inside in air conditioning. It was in Building A so I did have to walk through the heat and sun to get there and back. We had 50 people signed up but we had some no shows and also delivery to people in their apartments staying completely out of the heat. We also had baked beans, green beans, potato salad, iced tea and water, and a cake for dessert. Everything was delicious. We had our weekly rummikub game right after the party, with 4 of us partygoers playing into the early evening. I managed to take home lots of leftovers, which barely fit into my overworked refrigerator. I watched the Yankees both Friday and Saturday, NY winning both games. I chatted with Robin and Gideon on face time, and on the regular phone on her way to work with Tracy on Saturday.
We have one more oppressive hot, humid mostly to partly sunny day ahead on Sunday with high temperatures approaching the 100 mark with heat indicies above 110, with low temps in the muggy, uncomfortable mid-upper 70s. An excessive heat warning will most likely be posted for Sunday.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are predicted for Monday and Tuesday, with high temps in the upper 80s on Monday and upper 70s on Tuesday and lows in the mid 60s on Monday and low 60s on Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday should be sunny and fairly pleasant, with highs in the low to mid 80s, lows in the low-mid 60s as a nice break to the heat wave the whole week will be welcome to all.
Midnight Saturday recorded a temperature of 82.2 degrees, relative humidity 76%, pressure rising at 29.88 inches and the dew point temperature at 73.9 degrees under partly cloudy skies.
Currently at 0449 the temperature is 79.5 degrees under clear skies, relative humidity at 82%, barometric pressure falling at 29.86 inches, and the dew point temperature at 74 degrees.
Good morning from the walrus on this early clear Sunday.
