Seems that I am establishing a new pattern of two-day reports of late. I will work on trying to get caught up and to report daily if at all possible. We took some steps back over these two days, with below normal temps and even a slight threat of snow late Sunday/early Monday, which unfortunately did not turn out to be. The big NCAA basketball tournament selections were made Sunday night, and the first games will start on Tuesday.

Sunday was partly to mostly cloudy and cooler. High temps only reached the upper 40s by the later stages of the afternoon after dropping to just above the freezing mark in the early AM. Dry air kept precipitation away, despite the abundance of clouds, particularly later in the day and evening. I watched the Big 10 championship game in the afternoon and all the selection shows in the evening to find out where all 68 teams will be going for the Big Dance.

No snow/sleet fell on Sunday. My March total snowfall is 2.5″ with the seasonal total at 26.8″.

Monday was mostly cloudy early with light showers of rain or snow reported in widely scattered locations in the region but nothing here in the immediate area. Some clearing later in the day, with temps remaining cool, highs reaching the upper mid 40s and upper mid 30s for lows.

My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time now as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200

I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/

Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values at times so should not be used except for general precipitation timing. For example during our big snowstorm back in mid-January the snow didn’t melt at all during the storm, and only started to record precipitation amounts a few days later when the sun and above freezing temperatures started to melt the snow.

I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day. I also use a snow stake outside my balcony window to get an idea on how much snow has fallen (while it is snowing) and how much snow is on the ground.

Tuesday should be sunny and still seasonably cool, with highs around 50° and lows around freezing.

Wednesday should be cloudy with highs in the mid 50s and lows in the upper 30s.

Thursday should be cloudy with a good chance of rain, highs in the low 50s and lows in the upper 30s.

Friday should be partly cloudy with highs in the low 50s and lows around 30°.

Saturday should be mostly sunny with high temps in the low-mid 50s and lows around freezing.

Partly cloudy and milder on Sunday, with highs in the low 60s and lows in the low 40s.

Midnight Monday night found the temperature a chilly 40.0°, relative humidity 45%, pressure rising at 30.40″ and the dew point at 20.3° under a clear sky.

Currently at 0648 the temperature is 29.4° under clear skies, relative humidity at 72%, barometric pressure rising at 30.45″, and the dew point at 21°.

Good early morning from the snowless walrus on this clear Tuesday.
