Cloudy, a bit less cold than yesterday, with light rain most of the day and a bit of freezing drizzle in the early AM update for Tuesday, February 12, 2019 for West Rockville Maryland

Tuesday was cloudy and still cold all day with temperatures hovering just above the freezing mark once again without much variation in the high and low temperatures. A bit of light freezing drizzle overnight but mostly light rain (0.64″), continuing through much of the day.

The maximum temperature was 36.0° at 1533.

The minimum temperature was 32.3° at 0014.

The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 31° @ 0000 up to a high of 35° @ 1500.

The relative humidity values ranged from a low of 95% @ 0000 up to a high of 96% @ 1454.

The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.33″ @ 0034 down to a low of 29.67″ @ 2349.

Tuesday had 0.64″ of melted precipitation. My February monthly total is now 1.47″ with my year-to-date total now at 5.05″ for 2019.

No snow/sleet fell on Tuesday that I know of. My year-to-date snowfall is still 16.7″ with the seasonal total at 18.8″

My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time now as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200

I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/

Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values at times so should not be used except for general precipitation timing. For example during our big snowstorm back in mid-January the snow didn’t melt at all during the storm, and only started to record precipitation amounts a few days later when the sun and above freezing temperatures started to melt the snow.

I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day. I also use a snow stake outside my balcony window to get an idea on how much snow has fallen (while it is snowing) and how much snow is on the ground.

Partly sunny, windy skies on Wednesday with highs in the low 40s and lows in the mid 20s.

Thursday should be partly cloudy and milder with highs in the lower 50s, lows in the low 40s.

Friday partly cloudy and milder, highs around 60° with lows dropping a bit down into the upper-mid 30s.

Saturday should be cloudy and colder with highs in the low-mid 30s, lows in the low-mid 20s with a good chance of snow with a few inches possible. Stay tuned !

Sunday may have more of a mix of rain/snow, cloudy with highs in the mid 30s and lows in the upper 20s.

Monday should be partly cloudy and dry, highs in the upper 30s and lows in the low-mid 20s.

Midnight Tuesday night found the temperature at 35.0°, cloudy, relative humidity 96%, pressure falling at 29.68″ and the dew point at 34.1° under cloudy skies.

Currently at 0559 the temperature is 34.7° under partly cloudy skies, relative humidity at 96%, barometric pressure now rising at 29.80″, and the dew point at 34°.

Good morning from this damp walrus on this slowly drying out partly cloudy Wednesday.
