Cloudy, damp, mild, foggy at times Wednesday and Thursday, partial clearing, turning colder late Friday, partly cloudy cold Saturday update for Wednesday, February 6 through Saturday, February 9, 2019 for West Rockville Maryland

I have been tied up with a number of things this past week. This will be a necessarily brief catchup for the past four days with the usual statistics for each day, combined together as needed.

Mostly cloudy, mild, damp with light evening showers (0.09″ – roughly 1715-1915) on Wednesday with dense fog developing late evening bridging over to early Thursday with dense fog not breaking up till mid morning. High temps both days were in the mid 50s, with lows in the mid 40s.

Wednesday’s maximum temperature was 53.0° at 1217. Thursday’s maximum temperature was 54.8° at 1455.

Wednesday’s minimum temperature was 43.6° at 0233. Thursday’s minimum temperature was 44.2° at 0514.

Wednesday’s dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 42° @ 0039 up to a high of 46° @ 0309. Thursday’s dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 42° at 0557 up to a high of 49° at 2045.

Wednesday’s relative humidity values ranged from a high of 94% @ 0248 down to a low of 72% @ 1221. Thursday’s relative humidity values ranged from a low of 78% @ 1457 up to a high of 96% @ 2336.

Wednesday’s barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.18″ @ 0818 down to a low of 29.99″ @ 2047. Thursday’s barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.12″ @ 0951 down to a low of 29.95″ @ 23335

Wednesday had 0.09″ of precipitation and Thursday had none. My February monthly total through Thursday is 0.16″ with my year-to-date total now at 3.74″ for 2019. Friday was mild with light showers from about 0200-0400 (0.04″) with partial clearing and gradually falling temperatures to the low 30s by midnight observation. Winds picked up after the cold front passed through, and Saturday was a mostly to partly sunny day with temps barely going over the freezing mark.

Friday’s maximum temperature was 54.2° at 1129. Saturday’s maximum temperature was 32.8° at 1536.

Friday’s minimum temperature was 32.5° at 2359. Saturday’s minimum temperature was 24.7° at 0839.

Friday’s dew point temperatures ranged from a high of 49° @ 0012 down to a low of 15° @ 2250. Saturday’s dew point temperatures ranged from a high of 16° at 0001 down to a low of 10° at 0730.

Friday’s relative humidity values ranged from a high of 97% @ 1004 down to a low of 41% @ 1532. Saturday’s relative humidity values ranged from a low of 40% @ 1518 up to a high of 58% @ 2208.

Friday’s barometric pressure ranged from a low of 29.94″ @ 0129 up to a high of 30.46″ @ 2358. Saturday’s barometric pressure ranged from a low of 30.45″ @ 0000 up to a high of 30.80″ @ 2137. This 30.80″ pressure value is the highest of the year (surpassing the previous high of 30.78″ back on January 21) and is the highest in my record since 30.83″ was recorded last year on February 13.

Wednesday had 0.09″ of precipitation and Thursday had none. My February monthly total through Thursday is 0.16″ with my year-to-date total now at 3.74″ for 2019.

Friday had 0.04″ of precipitation and Saturday had none. My February monthly total through Saturday is now 0.20″ with my year-to-date total now at 3.78″ for 2019.

No snow fell through the entire four day period. My year-to-date snowfall is 16.1″ with the seasonal total at 18.2″.

My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing
regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time now as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval. The web address for my data on weather underground is:
https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200

I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on
https://www.cocorahs.org/

Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the
tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values at times so should not be used except for general precipitation timing. For example during our big snowstorm back in mid-January the snow didn’t melt at all during the storm, and only started to record precipitation amounts a few days later when the sun and above freezing temperatures started to melt the snow.

I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official”
precipitation total each day. I also use a snow stake outside my balcony window to get an idea on how much snow has
fallen (while it is snowing) and how much snow is on the ground.

Sunday will be sunny early with high clouds increasing and lowering as the day progresses, with highs reaching the 40° mark. By evening, a light mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain or rain will start to fall with temps falling to around the freezing mark. Monday and Tuesday should be a mixed bag of precipitation continuing, esp in the early morning hours, with a tendency for just plain rain later in the day, esp on Tuesday. Temps will moderate through the 30s into the 40s by the afternoon.

Midnight Saturday night found the temperature at 28.0°, relative humidity 48%, pressure falling at 30.75″ and the dew point at 10.8° under clear skies.

Currently at 0847 the temperature is 28.0° under sunny skies (with thin high clouds covering some of the sky) , relative humidity at 54%, barometric pressure now steady at 30.75″, and the dew point at 13°.

Good morning from the snowlesswalrus on this sunny, cold Sunday. My apologies for not posting the last few days and for any errors I have made in this comprehensive report covering the past 4 days.
