A generally cloudy and still very cold update from West Rockville Maryland for Friday, November 23, 2018
My friend Marty came over on Friday for most of the day to help put together my new computer office chair and a bed rail that will keep me from falling out of bed. He also replaced the artificial camouflage “ivy” on my cocorahs rain gauge, and some necessary VP2 accessories to help get through the winter and extend the life and functionality of my weather station. He also took me to my medical appointments to pick up a prescription and get my blood checked. After we finished all this we had a late lunch at “Beers and Cheers” to conclude a busy day. Marty can be seen in the featured image today studying the beer and food menus at this location. It is a great place!
Friday remained cloudy most of the day, and very cold. Both elements were not forecasted very well, with more clouds and colder temperatures than predicted, with high temps only in the low 30s and lows in the mid 20s. Also the clouds kept the minimum temps higher than expected in the early AM.
The max temperature was 32.6° at 1443.
The min temperature was 25.5° at 0419.
Dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 3° @ 0706 up to a high of 18° @ 2355.
Relative humidity values ranged from a low of 38% @ 0706 up to a high of 56% @ 2345.
Barometric pressure ranged from a high of 30.64″ @ 0034 down to a low of 30.33″ @ 2349.
No rain or snow fell on Friday so November 2018 rainfall is still at 5.76″ with the year-to-date precipitation still at 56.81″.
You can get my VP2 data on Weatherlink. I have migrated over to Weatherlink 2.0 so I have a new link for my data. You can now access the data through:

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time.
The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200
I contribute daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/
Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. And the tipping bucket is producing significantly higher values than my 4 inch gauge. I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Saturday will warm to the mid 40s for highs, mid 30s for lows, cloudy, and a 100 POP for rain, possibly beginning as sleet and/or freezing rain in the early AM, especially out in the Shenandoah Valley of VA, with a winter weather advisory posted.
Sunday should turn mostly sunny and milder with highs in the mid 50s and lows in the low 40s.
Monday clouds and rain showers (70 POP) return, with highs around 50° and lows in the low 30s.
Tuesday should be mostly sunny and colder, with highs in the low 40s and lows in the mid 20s. Wednesday should be mostly sunny and a bit colder with highs in the upper-mid 30s and lows in the upper 20s.
Friday’s midnight observations included a temperature of 32.0°, relative humidity of 56%, barometric pressure of 30.33″ and falling, and a dew point of 18° with lowering overcast skies.
Currently at 0815 the temperature is 35.9°, dew point temperature 33°, relative humidity 89%, and barometric pressure at 30.11″ and falling under lowering cloud cover with rain imminent. Temperatures held in the low 30s overnight but rising into the mid 30s over the past hour or so.
Good morning from the Walrus on this Saturday.
(This Walrus must admit to going out shopping with Marty on Friday afternoon. But we paired the shopping list down, avoiding Walmart and instead taking care of what we needed at Staples. And Marty went to Staples, I went directly to Beers and Cheers, right next door. See image below of my resting spot inside the establishment)
