Early AM and late PM light showers; mostly cloudy, still pleasantly “cool” update from West Rockville, Maryland for Sunday, October 14, 2018

Sunday was cloudy, cool, with a light shower around mid-day and then again in the late evening after 2300. (.02″ total)  High temps reached the mid 50s by mid-afternoon, after reaching a low in the mid 40s in the very early AM. Dew point temperatures remained in the 40s most of the day, but rose into the low 50s with the late evening showers.

You can get my VP2 data on Weatherlink. I have migrated over to Weatherlink 2.0 so I have a new link for my data. You can now access the data through:

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDROCKV200

I contribute daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/

Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4″ CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

Sunday had 0.01″ of light rain around mid-day and another 0.01″ in the late evening just prior to observation. So the daily total was 0.02″.  October 2018 has now had 1.03″ of rainfall at my location with my year-to-date precipitation at 49.45″.

Overnight Saturday into Sunday turned cloudy, and remained cool. Temps dropped into the mid 40s in the very early AM. Temps gradually warmed up into the mid 50s by mid-afternoon Sunday after the mid-day shower. Temps held in the mid 50s the rest of the day.  Dew points rose a bit through the 40s into the low 50s with the late evening shower.

Monday looks to be cloudy and milder with a 60 POP for showers, with highs in the low 70s and lows in the upper 40s.

Tuesday looks to cool down again into the upper 50s for highs, mid 40s for lows under mostly sunny skies.

Wednesday should be partly cloudy with highs around 60° and lows in the upper 30s.

Thursday should be sunny but even cooler, with highs in the upper-low 50s and lows in the mid 30s with perhaps some scattered areas of frost in the normally cold pockets away from the city.

Friday should be partly cloudy with high temps in the upper 50s and lows warming up a bit into the upper 40s.

Our first general freeze/frost still looks to be a week or two away, as it has been trending later in the fall over the past few years. Mountain areas out in WV above 3500 feet had some light snow on Saturday AM, very close to the average first snow at my friend’s place on Canaan Mountain WV at 3715′ elevation. Other lower elevations in the WV, VA, and MD mountain region have had some isolated spots of frost/freezing temps early on  Sunday and perhaps later in the coming week.

Early fall color change has been minimal so far, but is starting to ramp up. What I hope to see more of by the end of this month is reflected in today’s featured image, taken out of the blazing aspen in the Colorado mountains earlier this month.

Currently at 0542 the temperature is 55.5°, dew point temperature 54°, relative humidity 96%, and barometric pressure at 30.14″ and falling.

Currently I have cloudy and milder conditions with temps in the mid 50s. No rain yet but it is nearby in other metro DC areas.

Good morning from the Walrus early on this Monday.

Kevin
