Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
On Saturday clouds persisted and rain fell from 1355-1520 and 2310 through midnight observation. The max rain rate was 5.05″/hour at 1430. Sunday was lighter rain that took up more of the day to fall, continuing through midnight from yesterday till 0045, then starting up again at 0205 and lasting without many breaks through 1535. The more modest max rain rate was 1.02″/hour @ 0213. Other areas in the region had much more rain than I did as you could see developing on radar. Despite the early “stop” on the rain according to my weatherlink software, the radar and my own observations, occasional drizzle held on through early Monday. . Monday through Wednesday will worm back up a bit into the low-mid 80s under partly cloudy skies with a 60 POP for scattered thunderstorms on Monday and Wednesday and an 80 POP for thunderstorms on Tuesday under cloudy skies. Lows will be around 70°. On Thursday a 50 POP for scattered thunderstorms and a high in the low 80s and low around 70°. As Florence draws near the SE Atlantic coast on Friday, there is an 80 POP for thunderstorms and highs in the mid 70s, lows in the upper 60s. It is tough to say how much we will be affected by Florence at this time, but keeping close tabs on its forecasted track is quite prudent.
At 0921, Channel 4 radar is showing plenty of rain in most of Pennsylvania into parts of West Virginia, and scattered lighter showers over parts of central VA, all heading NE towards NY, NJ and New England. Much of our coastal areas have a coastal flood advisory posted.
At 0921, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Cloudy skies, pleasantly cool, still damp with occasional drizzle.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low on Sunday
VP2 Ground 61.5° 96% 60° 30.08″S NA 62.4°/57.5°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.69″ through midnight Saturday.
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 1.28″ though midnight Sunday.
The VP2 tipping bucket recorded much more at 1.54″ through midnight Saturday and
1.75″ through midnight Sunday. It has recorded 0.01″ this morning since midnight.
Saturday’s precipitation was 0.69″ and Sunday’s precipitation was 1.28″.
September precipitation total is now 4.41″.
Year-to-date precipitation total 42.49″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 60° 100% 60° 30.06″R NE 6 G ESE 26
140° from station Sun. Hi/Lo 61°/56°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 1.05″ of rain from midnight Saturday through midnight Sunday. The September total precipitation total has been significantly adjusted finally showing 3.64″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount now at 53.77″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
