Partly to mostly sunny, warm to hot, humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Sunday, September 2, 2018 through Tuesday, September 4, 2018

I have been busy with the Labor Day holiday and end of the month/beginning of the new month weather activities causing me not to be able to post my daily weather update the past few days. I will somewhat condense the past 3 days (Sunday, September 2 through Tuesday, September 4) into this one message. No rain has fallen through this period, just warm to hot temps, high dew points (almost totally above the 70° mark) with partly sunny to mostly sunny skies and associated occasional afternoon periods of fair-weather cumulus that have built into spotty showers/storms in scattered areas in the region, but not at my station. The Sunday maximum temperature was 85.3° @ 1647, while the Sunday minimum temperature was a mild 70.1° @ 0706. The dew point temperatures rose into the mid 70s during the day after a brief stay in the upper 60s in the early AM hours, ranging from a low of 69° @ 0623 up to a high of 76° @ 1324. The barometric pressure rose a tad bit today – the highest value being 30.28″ @ 1051 down to a low of 30.18″ @ 1820. The relative humidity was a bit lower on the low end than yesterday, ranging from a high of 97% @ 0410 down to a low of 65% at 1550. The Monday maximum temperature was 89.8° @ 1604, while the Monday minimum temperature was a warmer 73.9° @ 0633. The dew point temperatures held in the low-upper 70s all day, ranging from a low of 73° @ 0000 up to a very uncomfortable high of 79° @ 1235. The barometric pressure rose a tad bit today – the highest value being 30.29″ @ 1006 down to a low of 30.19″ @ 1712. The relative humidity was a bit lower on the low end than yesterday, ranging from a high of 97% @ 0737 down to a low of 61% at 1549. The Tuesday maximum temperature was 90.3° @ 1426, while the Tuesday minimum temperature was a slightly warmer 74.7° @ 0712. The dew point temperatures held in the low-upper 70s all day once again, ranging from a low of 73° @ 0621 up to an uncomfortable high of 78° @ 1318. The barometric pressure held from yesterday – the highest value being 30.28″ @ 1015 down to a low of 30.19″ @ 1931. The relative humidity was lower than yesterday, ranging from a high of 95% @ 0425 down to a low of 59% at 1430.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

After a wet Saturday, Sunday dried out under partly sunny skies and warmer temperatures with high in the mid 80s and lows around 70°. Labor Day Monday heated up some more with highs around 90° and lows warming into the mid 70s under mostly sunny skies. Heat advisories have been posted during the day on Monday and Tuesday for heat indexes up to 105° in some spots in the region. Tuesday was mostly sunny and continued hot and humid, with the high temperature just peaking over the 90° mark and low temps in the mid 70s once again. Wednesday should be partly cloudy and hot, with highs in the low 90s and lows in the low 70s. Thursday should be much of the same as Wednesday temperature-wise under mostly sunny skies. On Friday a change to our hot pattern will hopefully start, with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s with a 90 POP for thunderstorms under mostly cloudy skies. Right now on Saturday a 50 POP for showers under cloudy skies, but most notably a cooler high than we have had in quite a while, with highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 60s. Sunday is expected to stay cloudy and even cooler, with temps remaining in the 60s and a 40 POP for showers. The heat ridge will be tough to move out and will rebound back in during the following week, temps returning into the 80s and lows in the 60s to around 70° under still relatively high dew points.

At 0635, Channel 4 radar is showing no rain returns within the 4-state Mid-Atlantic region. The closest rain is in parts of Alabama and Mississippi, associated with tropical storm Gordon, which came ashore late Tuesday.

At 0635, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

Clear skies, warm and humid.

Station Relative Location Temp  RH   DP     BP     Wind High/Low on Tuesday
VP2              Ground          73.2° 96% 72° 30.23″S NA    90.3°/74.7°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Tuesday.
The VP2 tipping bucket has also recorded 0.00″ through Tuesday.

Sunday through Tuesday’s precipitation was 0.00″
August precipitation final total was 7.67″
September precipitation total is 0.86″.
Year-to-date precipitation total 38.94″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 73° 100% 73° 30.26″R Calm Calm
                              140° from station               Tue Hi/Lo 95°/73°

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain from Sunday through Tuesday. The September total precipitation total is currently still incorrectly showing 0.00″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 50.13″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Sunday night the temperature from the VP2 was 75.8° RH 90% BP 30.23″R DP 72.8°
