Partly sunny, not quite so hot and humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Thursday, August 30, 2018
A partly cloudy Thursday was not as hot, failing to hit the 90° high temp mark for the first time since Monday, and was a bit less humid, with actual clear, blue skies in the morning and a dew point drop of about 5°. Clouds did develop in the afternoon somewhat, with scattered showers in the region but not at my station till after midnight, to be discussed in Friday’s report. High temps reached the upper mid-80s and dew points fell to around the 70° mark by sunrise and stayed that way most of the day before rising into the low 70s in the evening as showers approached. The Thursday maximum temperature was 87.0° @ 1510, while the Thursday minimum temperature was a warm 74.9° @ 0631. The dew point temperatures dropped overnight from the mid 70s down to around 70°, ranging from a high of 75° @ 0000 down to a low of 69° @ 1158. The barometric pressure rose a bit – the lowest value being 29.99″ @ 0355 up to a high of 30.11″ @ 2343. The relative humidity was about the same as yesterday, ranging from a high of 90% @ 0442 down to a low of 59% at 1358.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Partly Sunny, not as hot and somewhat less humid conditions persisted through much of Thursday, with an increase in clouds in the evening ahead of some overnight showers (0.05″) around 0100-0200 early Friday morning that helped rise the dew points and temps closer to the mid 70s by sunrise. On Friday, considerable clouds and cooler, with highs in the low 80s and a 90 POP for PM thunderstorms. Saturday will start out the new month of September partly cloudy, highs a bit warmer in the mid 80s, with a 40 POP for PM thunderstorms. Sunday will be partly cloudy and warm a bit more into the upper mid 80s and a 60 POP for scattered thunderstorms. Labor Day Monday will warm a bit more (upper 80s) under continued partly cloudy skies and a 50 POP for PM thunderstorms. Lows will be around 70° from today (Friday) through Labor Day Monday. Tuesday will be partly cloudy, highs around 90° and lows in the lower 70s with only a 20 POP for an isolated shower.
At 0947, Channel 4 radar is showing a small area of showers just to my north moving through Frederick County but moving NE so we won’t be getting any rain out of that small cluster. Much more rain is falling through much of central to eastern PA, but once again moving away from my immediate area. There is nothing showing out to my west over WV, OH, KY, etc at this time.
At 0947, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Partly Sunny skies, warm and humid.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low on Thu
VP2 Ground 78.3° 87% 74° 30.17″R NA 87.0°/74.9°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Thursday.
The VP2 tipping bucket recorded 0.00″ on Thursday. It did record 0.05″ after midnight and will be added to my Friday VP2 total.
Thursday’s precipitation was 0.00″
August precipitation total 7.53″
Year-to-date precipitation total 37.94″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 79° 84% 74° 30.21″R ENE 3 G ENE 7
140° from station Thu. Hi/Lo 90°/73°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Thursday. Since midnight, however it has recorded 0.09″ from the early AM showers. The August total precipitation total is still 4.26″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 49.43″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Thursday night the temperature from the VP2 was 79.0° RH 83% BP 30.11″R DP 73.4°
Warm, humid and mostly cloudy.
Good morning from the partly cloudy, warm, and humid home of the Walrus on this Friday.
