Mostly sunny, hot, humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Wednesday, August 29, 2018
A partly cloudy Wednesday was once again downright hot and humid, our third one of several this week this last week of August, with high temps reaching the lower 90s and dew points once again climbing through the 70s under muggy southwesterly breezes. The Wednesday maximum temperature was 91.9° @ 1613, while the Wednesday minimum temperature was a muggy 75.2° @ 0649. The dew point temperatures once again climbed through the 70s today, ranging from a high of 78° @ 1033 down to a low of 72° @ 1601. The barometric pressure fell off a bit more – the highest value being 30.09″ @ 1000 down to a low of 29.96″ @ 1825. The relative humidity was about the same as yesterday, ranging from a high of 95% @ 0712 down to a low of 53% at 1601.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Partly Sunny, hot, and humid conditions persisted on Wednesday, with a few passing clouds (see today’s featured image taken at 0800 EDT – only lasted about 15 minutes or so – looking ENE – more to the north in the sky were some cumulus buildups that were quite surprising to see so early in the day) and the promise for some relief on Thursday (upper mid 80s) and an isolated chance at thunderstorms (30 POP) in the afternoon/evening. Lows will be around 70° through Labor Day Monday. I still believe the front is having a hard time getting through this heat ridge we have been under so far this week. . On Friday, a bit cooler temps with highs in the low 80s under partly cloudy skies and a 50 POP for scattered thunderstorms. Saturday should be in the mid 80s under partly cloudy skies and a 50 POP for scattered thunderstorms. A bit warmer on Sunday with highs in the upper mid 80s under partly cloudy skies and a 60 POP for scattered thunderstorms. Labor Day Monday looks to be partly cloudy and very warm with highs in the upper 80s and a 50 POP for PM thunderstorms.
At 1130, Channel 4 radar is clear in the 4-state mid-Atlantic region. Closest precipitation are a few scattered showers well south in Georgia and an area of organized showers and storms out in the Gulf of Mexico south of the western panhandle of FL, AL, MS, and LA. The line of showers/storms from a weakening frontal system that had been marching through the Midwest earlier this week “washed out” over Pennsylvania overnight with nothing but a few clouds in my region passing on through earlier this morning.
At 1130, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Sunny skies, warm and moderately humid. A bit of a NW breeze kicking up now, along a few scattered high clouds.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low on Wed
VP2 Ground 84.2° 64% 71° 30.10″R NA 91.9°/75.2°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Wednesday.
The VP2 tipping bucket recorded 0.00″ on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s precipitation was 0.00″
August precipitation total 7.53″
Year-to-date precipitation total 37.94″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 84° 56% 67° 30.14″S NNE 2 G NNW 11
140° from station Est. Wed. Hi/Lo 96°/73°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Wednesday. The August total precipitation total is still 4.26″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 49.43″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Wednesday night the temperature from the VP2 was 80.5° RH 83% BP 30.02″R DP 74.9°
Warm, humid and partly cloudy.
Good morning from the clear, warm, moderately humid home of the Walrus on this Thursday.
