Sunny, pleasant, but slowly climbing dew points update for West Rockville Maryland for Saturday, August 25, 2018

Saturday was another nice day featuring sunny skies, high temps only around 80°, but with dew points starting to climb into the mid 60s, and pleasant breezes that were starting to turn over to a more southerly direction as our highest pressure was reached in the morning and falling off the rest of the day, indicating the HIGH pressure was moving off to the east towards the ocean. The Saturday maximum temperature was 79.7° @ 1335, while the Saturday minimum temperature was 61.8° @ 0638. The dew point temperatures started to climb through the day, ranging from a low of 59° @ 0419 up to a high of 66° @ 1105. The barometric pressure reached its highest value of this pleasant period in the morning then started to fall off the rest of the day – the highest value being 30.29″ @ 0804 down to a low of 30.18″ @ 1952. The relative humidity started to climb a bit on the low end, ranging from a high of 93% @ 0719 down to a low of 50% at 1606.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

I received two hand-drawn (old AM Weather Style) weather maps over my phone via text from Ray Muller.  I followed the last of the dying now tropical storm Lane updates from the Weather Channel, though the rains have continued to fall under a continued moist southerly fetch out of the South Pacific Ocean. Flooding continues to ravage the area, particularly on the “Big Isle”.

Sun is still dominating the weather scene this weekend with bright blue skies dotted with scattered fair-weather cumulus in the afternoon with high temps around 80° on Saturday and up near 90° on Sunday with the dew points creeping up through the 60s. Sunny, hot, and humid conditions are in store for our area through Wednesday (low 90s Monday and mid 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday) next week under partly cloudy skies Monday-Tuesday and mostly sunny skies on Wednesday. Lows will be in the upper 60s on Sunday but climbing into the low 70s Monday and continuing through Wednesday. Thursday looks like highs back down a bit into the upper 80s with clouds increasing into the afternoon and a 60 POP for PM thunderstorms as a cold front moves into our region. Thereafter it should turn cooler and drier after some morning showers on Friday as we enter the Labor Day weekend and start the month of September.

At 1015, Channel 4 radar is showing scattered showers over parts of WV, SW VA and OH now from a weak upper level disturbance but this action should drift south of our immediate area or just simply dry up as it heads ESE into central VA.

At 1015, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

Sunny skies, comfortable temps in the 70s but climbing with dew points now in the mid 60s.

Station Relative Location Temp RH    DP    BP    Wind High/Low temp on Sat
VP2             Ground          75.3° 75% 67° 30.19″S NA    79.7°/61.8°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Sat.
The VP2 tipping bucket recorded 0.00″ on Saturday.

Saturday’s precipitation was 0.00″
August precipitation total 7.53″
Year-to-date precipitation total 37.94″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 75° 69% 64° 30.19″S SW 3 G SW 9
                              140° from station           Est. Sat. Hi/Lo 80°/61°

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Saturday. The August total precipitation total is 4.26″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount at 49.43″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Saturday night the temperature from the VP2 was 66.8° RH 83% BP 30.22″S DP 61.5°
Clear, pleasant with slowly rising temps and dew points.

Good morning from the sunny, warming, dry home of the Walrus on this Sunday.
