Mostly sunny, warm, moderately humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Friday August 10, 2018
Friday featured a mostly sunny, warm, moderately humid day, as we once again did not reach 90° today for our high after lows around 70° in the early morning. Overnight into Saturday cloudy skies ahead of our inclement weather during much of the weekend and into the early part of next week with temperatures remaining in the low 70s overnight, with dew points a bit higher in the lower 70s. The Friday maximum temperature was 87.0° @ 1447, while the Friday minimum temperature was 70.3° @ 0628. The dew point temperatures lowered a bit into the upper 60s-lower 70s, ranging from a low of 67° @ 0524 up to a high of 73° @ 1102. The barometric pressure remained somewhat low, a bit higher than yesterday’s values – the highest value being 29.95″ @ 1049 down to a low of 29.86″ @ 1830. The relative humidity was about the same as yesterday, ranging from a high of 90% @ 0412 down to a low of 55% at 1626.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
I talked with Ray a few times (he was so happy that he got his 18″ wind direction indicator delivered today – he had it up and operational for his 1300 observation at his station in Reisterstown MD, about 40 miles NE of my location – see today’s featured image ). I spoke with Marty on Face-time and then regular phone connections for a while in the evening about our upcoming rainy weekend and other issues.
Friday was mostly sunny, warm and moderately humid with highs in the upper mid 80s and lows around 70° and totally dry. Some increase in high clouds towards the end of the day were noted ahead of our wet weekend ahead. Both weekend days (and Monday) look to be more cloudy than sunny with highs in the upper 80s, lows in the upper 60s on Saturday with an 80 POP for thunderstorms over the weekend and a 90 POP on Monday. Temps on Sunday and Monday should have highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid-upper 60s. Tuesday looks mostly sunny with highs in the low-mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s and only a 20 POP for an isolated shower. Wednesday should heat up a bit into the upper 80s under partly cloudy skies, with lows in the upper 60s and only a 10 POP for rain.
At 0540, Channel 4 radar is showing scattered, light showers in the area, with more showers to my north up in PA, and more importantly to my southwest in central VA and parts of NC headed this way in a few hours.
At 0540, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Mostly cloudy skies, showers in the vicinity, mild and increasingly damp but dry at the moment.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Fri
VP2 Ground 75.0° 85% 70° 29.90″F NA 87.0°/70.3°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Friday. The VP2 tipping bucket also had 0.00″.
Friday’s precipitation was 0.00″
August precipitation total is still 2.20″
Year-to-date precipitation total 32.61″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 74° 94% 72° 29.94″F WNW 1 G WNW 4
140° from station Fri. Hi/Lo 91°/69°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Friday. The August total precipitation is still 2.02″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount at 47.19″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Friday night the temperature from the VP2 was 76.6° RH 82% BP 29.91″R DP 70.7°
Partly Cloudy, warm and dry.
Good morning from the mostly cloudy, mild and increasingly moist home of the Walrus early on this Saturday.
