Partly sunny, hot, humid but surprisingly dry update for West Rockville Maryland for Wednesday August 8, 2018

Wednesday featured a partly sunny, hot, humid day, with late afternoon/evening close calls for rain but somehow missed me, mostly just to my north. I did not reach 90° today for our high (probably due to the clouds coming in during the hottest part of the day) after muggy low 70s in the early morning. Overnight into Thursday partly cloudy skies (mostly high clouds), a bit less humid, but with no rain. Temperatures remained in the low 70s overnight, with dew points a bit lower in the upper 60s. The Wednesday maximum temperature was 88.6° @ 1545, while the Wednesday minimum temperature was 71.0° @ 0548. The dew point temperatures remained in the 70s all day, ranging from a low of 70° @ 0113 up to a high of 77° @ 1253. The barometric pressure lowered from yesterday’s values – the highest value being 29.97″ @ 0851 down to a low of 29.84″ @ 1852. The relative humidity was just about the same as yesterday, ranging from a high of 96% @ 0619 down to a low of 58% at 1710.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

Tuesday featured partly sunny, hot, humid conditions most of the day, with clouds building fairly early ahead of area-wide showers and thundershowers that mostly stayed to the north of me. Ray and Marty who live to the NE of me got rain but I got none. More clouds at times through the mid-evening hours, but it partially cleared out by late evening. Thursday and Friday look to be partly cloudy and slightly less humid with highs in the upper 80s on Thursday and around 90° on Friday, lows in the upper 60s and only a 20 POP for an isolated shower. Both weekend days (and Monday) look to be more cloudy than sunny, high only in the low 80s, lows in the upper 60s with a 50 POP for scattered thunderstorms on Saturday and Monday, only a 20 POP on Sunday.

At 0855, Channel 4 radar is showing scattered, mostly light showers out to my west in the mountain areas of WV and western Maryland, drifting SE but likely dying out in the next few hours as they tend to dry out when downsloping towards the lower elevations closer to the Coast.

At 0855, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

Mostly sunny skies, some high clouds, warm and humid but dry.

Station Relative Location   Temp   RH    DP      BP     Wind   High/Low temp on Wed.
VP2           Ground            76.6°  83% 71° 29.91″R    NA        88.6°/71.0°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Wednesday. The VP2 tipping bucket also had 0.00″.

Wednesday’s precipitation was 0.00″
August precipitation total is still 2.20″
Year-to-date precipitation total 32.61″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 76° 84% 71° 29.94″R   Calm G W 6
                            140° from station                Mon. Hi/Lo 92°/70°

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Wednesday. The August total precipitation updated to 1.98″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount at 47.15″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Wednesday night the temperature from the VP2 was 75.4° RH 87% BP 29.86″F DP 71.3°
Clear, muggy, and warm but dry.

Good morning from the mostly sunny (some high clouds), warm and humid home of the Walrus on this Thursday.
