Sunny, hot, humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Sunday August 5, 2018
Sunday featured a mostly sunny, dry day, first one in a while. It was still humid but with the full sun most of the day it felt a bit drier. Also as mentioned yesterday, the high temperature for the day made it just over the 90° mark, the first such occurrence since July 16. Overnight into Monday clear skies, humid, but void of rain to continue the dry trend started yesterday. In the region there were some isolated showers by late afternoon, some heavy, in other locations but none near me. All it did here was increase the cloudiness for a few hours. Temperatures remained in the low 70s overnight, with dew points about the same. The Sunday maximum temperature was 90.2° @ 1545, while the Sunday minimum temperature was 70.1° @ 0645. The dew point temperatures remained in upper 60s to mid 70s all day, ranging from a low of 68° @ 0645 up to a high of 76° @ 1108. The barometric pressure some from yesterday’s values – the highest value being 30.21″ @ 0928 down to a low of 30.11″ @ 1901. The relative humidity remained high in the early AM, but did lower some during the heat of the day, ranging from a high of 96% @ 0748 down to a low of 51% at 1411.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
I had plenty of water throughout the day, along with my supplements and prescriptions. My leg is slowly getting better, but itches at times, for which I apply this prescription steroidal cream to relieve the itchiness.
Sunday featured sunny, hot, humid conditions most of the day, with some fair weather cumulus developing by early afternoon and more general cloudiness during the late aftternoon at the time of the isolated showers in the region. It was clear once again by mid-evening. Monday should be mostly sunny and Tuesday partly cloudy with highs in the low 90s and lows in the low 70s. Minimal chances for rain through Tuesday (20 POP). Wednesday will be partly cloudy with highs around 90°, lows in the upper 60s and a 50 POP for PM thunderstorms. Thursday and Friday look to be partly cloudy and slightly less humid with highs in the mid-upper 80s and lows in the mid-upper 60s.
At 0735, Channel 4 radar is clear within the 4-state mid-Atlantic region. The closest precipitation activity is out in parts of the Midwest with showers and storms in sections of Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa at this time.
At 0735, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Totally sunny skies, warm and humid but dry.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Sunday
VP2 Ground 73.0° 96% 72° 30.13″S NA 90.2°/70.1°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Sunday. The VP2 tipping bucket also had 0.00″.
Sunday’s precipitation was 0.00″
August precipitation total is still 2.13″
Year-to-date precipitation total 32.54″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 73° 100% 73° 30.17″S Calm G N 1
140° from station Sun. Hi/Lo 92°/76°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Sunday. The August total precipitation remained at 1.97″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount remaining at 47.14″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Sunday night the temperature from the VP2 was 77.5° RH 87% BP 30.15″R DP 73.3°
Clear, muggy, and warm but dry.
Good morning from the sunny, warm and humid home of the Walrus on this dry Monday.
