Cloudy, warmer, humid, showers early AM then clearing with plenty of drying sun update for West Rockville Maryland for Saturday August 4, 2018

Saturday featured one last burst of rain in the very early AM hours (0.22″ – max rain rate 0.56″/hour @ 0327), then clearing the rest of the day with full sun by late afternoon after a round of fair weather cumulus dotted the sky earlier in the afternoon. It was still humid all day. Overnight into Sunday clear skies, humid, but void of rain to start a dry trend for the next few days. Temperatures remained in the low 70s, with dew points about the same. The Saturday maximum temperature was 86.1° @ 1607, while the Saturday minimum temperature was 69.8° @ 0632. The dew point temperatures essentially remained in the 70s all day, ranging from a low of 69° @ 0353 up to a high of 75° @ 1322. The barometric pressure rose a bit from yesterday’s values – the lowest value being 30.08″ @ 0234 up to a high of 30.18″ @ 1136. The relative humidity remained high, ranging from a high of 97% @ 0000 down to a low of 60% at 1634.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

I transcribed Ray’s July data over the phone into an email to the NJWO for eventual publication in their monthly issue “WEATHERSHELTER” in the evening.

Saturday featured that very early shower around 0330, then gradual clearing, warmer, still humid conditions the rest of the day. Lots of cumulus around for a while as we dried out some gradually. It was clear by evening. Sunday should be will have mostly sunny skies with highs in the lower 90s and lows around 70°. If we hit 90° on Sunday, it will be the first time we hit the 90° mark since we hit 93° back on July 16. Monday should be mostly sunny and Tuesday partly cloudy with highs around 90° and lows in the low 70s. Minimal chances for rain through Tuesday (20 POP). Wednesday will be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 80s, lows in the upper 60s and a 60 POP for PM thunderstorms. Thursday looks to be partly cloudy with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s.

At 1040, Channel 4 radar is clear within the 4-state mid-Atlantic region.

At 1040, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

Totally sunny skies, warm and humid but dry.

Station Relative Location Temp   RH   DP      BP     Wind High/Low temp on Saturday
VP2              Ground        82.8° 76% 75° 30.21″S  NA       86.1°/69.8°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.22″ through midnight Saturday. The VP2 tipping bucket only recorded 0.11″, falling between 0325 and 0355. The max rain rate was 0.56″/hour @ 0327.

Saturday’s precipitation was 0.22″
August precipitation total is now 2.13″
Year-to-date precipitation total is now 32.54″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 84° 66% 71° 30.24″R SW 2 G WSW 7
                            140° from station                  Sat Hi/Lo 88°/69°

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.05″ of rain on Saturday. The August total precipitation is now listed as 1.97″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount at 47.14″. How they get these totals still baffle me. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Friday night the temperature from the VP2 was 74.7° RH 89% BP 30.16″ S DP 71.2°
Clear, muggy, and warm but dry.

Good morning from the sunny, warm and humid home of the Walrus on this dry Sunday.
