Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Friday was mostly cloudy, humid, and not too hot with highs in the low 80s and lows in the low 70s with a heavy early evening shower that had a max rain rate of 1.91″ @ 1909. The weekend looks warmer and drier, as both Saturday and Sunday will have mostly to partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s to around 90° and lows around 70°. Monday and Tuesday should be mostly sunny with highs around 90° and lows around 70°. Minimal chances for rain through Tuesday (10-20 POP). Wednesday will be partly cloudy with highs in the mid-upper 80s, lows in the upper 60s and a 60 POP for PM thunderstorms.
At 1700, Channel 4 radar is showing a clear pattern for a change over the 4-state Mid-Atlantic Region. Scattered showers can be found in parts of New England, and widely scattered, mostly light showers down in North Carolina and points west and south of there.
At 1700, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Mostly sunny skies dotted with scattered fair-weather cumulus, warm and humid without any rain.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Friday
VP2 Ground 85.0° 65% 72° 30.13″S NA 82.1°/71.5°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.52″ through midnight Friday. The VP2 tipping bucket recorded 0.33″, falling mainly between 1830 and 1930. The max rain rate was 1.91″/hour @ 1909.
Friday’s precipitation was 0.52″
July’s final precipitation total was 8.14″
August precipitation total is now 1.91″
Year-to-date precipitation total is now 32.32″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 87° 51% 66° 30.18″F NNW 2 G SW 9
140° from station Wed Hi/Lo 83°/71°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.70″ of rain on Friday. The August total precipitation is now listed as 1.01″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount at 46.18″. How they get these totals still baffle me. I definitely continue to believe that at times the disparities between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Friday night the temperature from the VP2 was 73.1° RH 97% BP 30.09″ F DP 72.2°
Partly cloudy, muggy, and mild but dry.
Good afternoon from the mostly sunny, warm and humid home of the Walrus on this dry Saturday.
