A partly to mostly cloudy, not as warm, a bit less humid, evening light rainy update for West Rockville Maryland for Wednesday June 20, 2018
Wednesday was partly cloudy, cooler and drier in the AM, but clouded over in the afternoon and light rain (daily total 0.31″) moved in during the evening (1935-2135), with a modest rain rate of 0.47″/hour @ 1957. Temperatures started out cooler in the AM, and only rose to around 80° by mid-afternoon before the rain started falling later on. Overnight into Wednesday skies were cloudy to partly cloudy, with temps only dropping into the upper 60s by sunrise. Temperatures will rise a bit higher on Thursday (low 80s) with AM Clouds and PM sun and little chances for rain. The Wednesday maximum temperature was 80..4° @ 1512, while the Wednesday minimum temperature was 68.4° @ 0435. The dew point temperatures started out in the upper 50s in the early AM then rose into the low 70s in the afternoon before the rain, then dropped through the 60s during the rain, ranging from a low of 57° @ 0717 up to a high of 71° @ 1433. The barometric pressure lowered a bit from Tuesday’s values – the highest value being 29.90″ @ 0839 down to a low of 29.77″ @ 1822. The relative humidity values were roughly the same as yesterday’s, ranging from a low of 58% at 0815 up to a high of 96% at 2258.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Wednesday cooled off under partly to mostly cloudy skies, with evening light rain. Thursday should be partly sunny (AM clouds/PM sun) and still not so humid with highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 60s as the summer solstice is about to move in. Friday features cloudy, mostly AM rainy skies with highs in the lower 70s, lows in the mid 60s, and a 70 POP for rain. Saturday should be mostly cloudy with a 90 POP for thunderstorms, highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Sunday should be partly cloudy with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s. Mostly sunny on Monday with highs around 80° and lows around 60°.
At 0938, NBC4 radar is showing some scattered shower activity to my N and NE over parts of Pennsylvania and NE MD, with much more widespread showers over much of the midwest, from SW VA and Eastern KY and points westward, gradually moving here by late Thursday/early Friday. We should remain dry most of Thursday till late.
At 0938, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Partly to mostly cloudy through broken stratocumulus, warm and now more humid
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Wednesday
VP2 Ground 77.4° 85% 73° 29.79″R NA 80.4°/68.4°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.31″ through midnight Wednesday. The VP2 tipping bucket had 0.30″. It had an “unofficial” max rain rate of 0.47″/hour @ 1957. I think the generally greater amount in the VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge recently has been at least partially due to its proximity to a dense evergreen tree that frequently drips down and then blows the “catch” into the gauge. I mostly use this gauge to tell me when and how hard it rained.
Wednesday’s precipitation was 0.31″
June precipitation 3.40″
Year-to-date precipitation total 21.82″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 78° 79% 71° 29.82″R NW 1 G WNW 11
140° from station 82°/68°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.35″ of rain again on Wednesday. June total precip is now being reported as 6.88″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount now at 32.91″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Wednesday night the temperature from the VP2 was 70.0° RH 96% BP 29.78″F DP 68.9°
Partly Cloudy, a tad cooler but a tad muggier (than yesterday at this time) at 2400 Wednesday
Good morning from the mostly cloudy, warm and now muggier home of the Walrus early on Thursday.
