A mostly sunny, hot, hazy, humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Monday June 18, 2018
Monday was a mostly to partly sunny, hazy, hot, humid day with clouds coming in during the later stages of the afternoon that put a lid on the increasing temperature. The clouds resulted from a line of storms coming down from Pennsylvania that hit other areas of the state, towards the NE part. Nevertheless, the 93.7° high today was my first 90° max temp in June, and hottest day of the year so far. Temperatures started out around 70° in the early AM then rose steadily, particularly in the late morning, to the high temp for the day around 1600. Overnight into Tuesday skies were [art;u cloudy, holding in the upper 70s by sunrise. Temperatures will not rise as much on Tuesday with increasing clouds and storm chances. The Monday maximum temperature was 93.7° @ 1558, while the Monday minimum temperature dropped to 70.2° @ 0601. The dew point temperatures rose through the upper 60s during the very early AM hours to into the upper 70s by later in the day, ranging from a low of 68° @ 0000 up to a high of 79° @ 1433. The barometric pressure was lower than Sunday – the highest value being 30.08″ @ 0113 down to a low of 29.87″ @ 1938. The relative humidity values were a bit higher than yesterday’s, ranging from a high of 94% at 0713 down to a low of 52% at 1603.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4″ CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
I worked on my May spreadsheet daily data, finishing the input of the first round to mark the half way point of this month’s report.
Monday really heated up with hazy, partly cloudy skies, and very humid, with highs in the upper-low 90s and lows around 70°. Tuesday should be “less hot” under partly to mostly cloudy skies with highs in the mid-upper 80s and lows in the mid 60s with now an 80 POP for thunderstorms. Wednesday should be cooling off a tad more with a 40 POP for PM thunderstorms under partly cloudy skies, highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid-upper 60s. Thursday should be partly sunny with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s as the summer solstice comes in. Friday features partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 70s, lows in the mid 60s, and a 40 POP for PM showers. Saturday should be partly cloudy with a 60 POP for scattered thunderstorms, highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 60s.
At 0758, NBC4 radar is showing light returns in parts of NE MD, PA, and OH. Extending westward the light action turns heavier in much of Wisconsin along with parts of MI, IA and MN at this time. That action should be moving in to our area over the next few days.
At 0758, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Partly sunny through a broken altostratus overcast, very warm and humid
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Monday
VP2 Ground 81.1° 78% 74° 29.87″S NA 93.7°/70.2° (Tue AM min 77.9° @ 0702)
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Monday. The VP2 tipping bucket also recorded 0.00″. I think the generally greater amount in the VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge recently has been at least partially due to its proximity to a dense evergreen tree that frequently drips down and then blows the “catch” into the gauge. I mostly use this gauge to tell me when and how hard it rained.
Monday’s precipitation was 0.00″
June precipitation 2.27″
Year-to-date precipitation total 20.69″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 80° 72% 72° 29.92″S Calm G NW 6
140° from station 95°/69°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Monday. June total precip remained at 6.59″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 32.63″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Sunday night the temperature from the VP2 was 81.4° RH 79% BP 29.89″F DP 74.3°
Partly Cloudy, warmer and muggy at 2400 Monday
Good morning from the partly sunny, very warm and muggy home of the Walrus early on Tuesday.
