A mostly sunny, warmer, more humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Father’s Day Sunday June 17, 2018
Sunday was a mostly sunny but hazier day with high clouds at times esp in the AM, and a warmer, more humid day. Temperatures started out around 70° in the early AM then rose just short of 90° by mid-afternoon. Overnight into Monday skies remained clear with temps down to around 70° by sunrise. Temperatures will rise even more during the afternoon, into the upper-mid 90s with partly cloudy skies and increasing dew point temperatures. The Sunday maximum temperature was 89.0° @ 1635, while the Sunday minimum temperature dropped to 71.1° @ 0602. The dew point temperatures rose through the 60s during the AM hours to well into the 70s by later in the day, ranging from a low of 61° @ 0000 up to a high of 74° @ 2047. The barometric pressure was about the same as Saturday – the lowest value being 30.03″ @ 0523 up to a high of 30.10″ @ 1000. The relative humidity values were a bit higher than yesterday’s, ranging from a low of 53% at 1546 up to a high of 83% at 2121.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Father’s Day Sunday was partly cloudy and very warm, but stopped just short of 90° for the daily max in the later stages of the afternoon with lows around 70°. Monday looks to heat up even more under partly sunny skies, with highs in the upper-mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s. Tuesday should be not as hot under partly sunny skies with highs in the upper 80s and lows around 70° with now a 60 POP for PM thunderstorms. Wednesday should be cooling off a tad with another 60 POP for PM thunderstorms under partly cloudy skies, highs in the mid 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Thursday should be partly sunny with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s as the summer solstice comes in. Friday features partly cloudy skies with highs in the low 80s, lows in the mid 60s, and a 40 POP for PM showers.
At 0857, NBC4 radar is clear throughout the 4 state mid-Atlantic region. The closest returns show showers and thundershowers over parts of Maine, offshore showers along the North Carolina coast and showers and storms in parts of the Midwest, through sections of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa at this time.
At 0857, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Sunny with a broken cirrostratus overcast, warm and dry
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Sunday
VP2 Ground 80.0° 80% 73° 30.06″S NA 89.0°/71.1°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Sunday. The VP2 tipping bucket also recorded 0.00″. I think the generally greater amount in the VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge recently has been at least partially due to its proximity to a dense evergreen tree that frequently drips down and then blows the “catch” into the gauge. I mostly use this gauge to tell me when and how hard it rained.
Sunday’s precipitation was 0.00″
June precipitation 2.27″
Year-to-date precipitation total 20.69″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 80° 70% 69° 30.11″S SW 2 G SW 7
140° from station 91°/69°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Sunday. June total precip remained at 6.59″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 32.63″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Sunday night the temperature from the VP2 was 78.0° RH 71% BP 30.06″S DP 67.8°
Clear and warmer at 2400 Sunday
Good morning from the partly sunny, warmer and dry home of the Walrus early on Monday.
