A mostly sunny, warm, still relatively comfortable update for West Rockville Maryland for Saturday June 16, 2018
Saturday was a mostly sunny, warm, and still a relatively comfortable day. Temperatures started out around 60° in the early AM then rose into the mid 80s by mid afternoon. Overnight into Sunday skies remained clear early but partly cloudy by sunrise as more moisture starts coming in on light southerly winds with temps holding in the low 70s through sunrise. Temperatures will rise more during the afternoon, into the low 90s with partly cloudy skies and increasing dew point temperatures. The Saturday maximum temperature was 85.9° @ 1646, while the Saturday minimum temperature dropped to 60.0° @ 0607. The dew point temperatures remained relatively low in the 50s most of the day but rising into the low 60s late, ranging from a low of 52° @ 1242 up to a high of 63° @ 2130. The barometric pressure rose a bit from Friday – the highest value being 30.10″ @ 0826 down to a low of 30.02″ @ 1222. The relative humidity values were roughly the same as yesterday’s, ranging from a high of 88% at 0633 down to a low of 36% at 1242.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
I had mostly sunny skies on Saturday with highs in the mid 80s, lows around 60°. Some clouds moved in overnight but should only create a very isolated shower chance on Sunday morning. Father’s Day Sunday should be partly cloudy and hot, with highs in the low 90s and lows around 70°. Monday looks to heat up even more under mostly sunny skies, with highs in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s. Tuesday should be more of the same under partly sunny skies with highs in the low 90s and lows around 70°. Hopefully Wednesday should be cooling off a bit but the rain chances that were 50 POP yesterday have unfortunately lowered to only a 20 POP for isolated showers under partly cloudy skies, highs in the mid 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Thursday should be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s as the summer solstice comes in.
At 0919, NBC4 radar is clear throughout the 4 state mid-Atlantic region except for an area of showers/storms out in central WV that are moving east but will mostly dry out as they pass over the mountains to my west.
At 0919, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Partly sunny (broken altocumulus) and dry
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Saturday
VP2 Ground 78.4° 70% 68° 30.10″R NA 85.9°/60.0°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Saturday. The VP2 tipping bucket also recorded 0.00″. I think the generally greater amount in the VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge recently has been at least partially due to its proximity to a dense evergreen tree that frequently drips down and then blows the “catch” into the gauge. I mostly use this gauge to tell me when and how hard it rained.
Saturday’s precipitation was 0.00″
June precipitation 2.27″
Year-to-date precipitation total 20.69″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 81° 59% 65° 30.13″R SSE 1 G SSE 2
140° from station 87°/57°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Saturday. June total precip remained at 6.59″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount still at 32.63″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Saturday night the temperature from the VP2 was 72.4° RH 68% BP 30.06″R DP 61.2°
Clear and warmer at 2400 Saturday
Good morning from the partly sunny, warmer and dry home of the Walrus early on Father’s Day Sunday. Today’s Featured image is of yours truly and my Dad at my nephew Steve’s wedding to Donna back in November 2008 in Dearborn Michigan. I believe it snowed that day in the Wolverine State.
