A mostly sunny, milder, drying out update for West Rockville Maryland for Tuesday June 12, 2018
Tuesday was a milder and mostly sunny day, perfect for the Washington Caps Stanley Cup parade through downtown Washington D.C.. Temperatures started out in the very pleasant mid 50s in the early AM but rose into the equally pleasant mid 70s by mid-afternoon. Clouds did appear briefly, including a short overcast around 0900 and later scattered cumulus dotting the sky at times. Overnight into Wednesday skies became cloudy and the the dew point started to rise once again. Temps only fell into the mid 60s overnight, and will rise into the 80s later. The Tuesday maximum temperature was 76.4° @ 1614, while the Tuesday minimum temperature dropped to 54.2° @ 0618. The dew point temperatures stayed fairly low, but rose a bit late in the day, ranging from a low of 53° @ 0450 up to a high of 64° @ 2257. The barometric pressure rose more from Monday – the highest value being 30.25″ @ 0933 down to a low of 30.10″ @ 1956. The relative humidity values started out high in the morning but dropped off nicely in the afternoon, ranging from a high of 95% at 0648 down to a low of 49% at 1509.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
I have had some minor computer and more major organizational problems on my part most of Wednesday so I am typing this very early Thursday morning. So I will make this report brief, focusing on the statistics for Tuesday and cover most of my personal comments, real-time data, radar and most observations in my report for Wednesday that I will be typing up in a few hours.
I watched most of the Washington Caps Stanley Cup Championship parade celebration through downtown Washington DC from 1100-1500. I am seriously considering (finally) a visit out to my younger daughter Robin in Las Vegas in early October in honor of my grandson Gideon’s 2nd birthday on October 9. I talked some things with her over very preliminary plans over logistics and plane flights.
Tuesday was mostly sunny (with some fair weather cumulus at times) and milder for the big parade for the Caps in downtown Washington with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the mid 50s. I will relate Wednesday’s conditions and the forecast for the rest of the week in my Wednesday Daily WX post later.
At 0030, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Cloudy and muggy
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Tuesday
VP2 Ground 75.6° 89% 72° 29.85″F NA 76.4°/54.2°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Tuesday. The VP2 tipping bucket recorded 0.00″. I think the greater amount in the VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge is at least partially due to its proximity to a dense evergreen tree that frequently drips down and then blows the “catch” into the gauge. I mostly use this gauge to tell me when and how hard it rained.
Tuesday’s precipitation was 0.00″
June precipitation 2.27″
Year-to-date precipitation total 20.69″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, will be reported on in Wednesday’s daily report.
140° from station 78°/52°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain on Tuesday. June total precip is now at 6.59″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount at 32.63″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Tuesday night the temperature from the VP2 was 67.1° RH 87% BP 30.10″F DP 63.1°
Partly cloudy, milder and drier at 2400 Tuesday
Good overnight from the cloudy, muggy home of the walrus very early on Thursday.
