A hazy, partly cloudy, warmer and more humid update for West Rockville Maryland for Friday June 8, 2018

Friday was a warmer and more humid, partly cloudy/hazy day with temperatures starting out in the lower 60s in the early AM and rising into the lower mid 80s by mid-afternoon. Fair weather cumulus dotted much of the afternoon sky, along with a haze/cirrus overcast that still let the sun in. Overnight into Saturday partly to mostly cloudy skies with temperatures only falling into the upper 60s by sunrise. The Friday maximum temperature was 83.1° @ 1629, while the Friday minimum temperature dropped to 61.3° @ 0539. The dew point temperatures continued to creep up into the more humid upper 60s, ranging from a low of 59° @ 0545 up to a high of 70° briefly @ 1250. The barometric pressure rose a bit more from Thursday – the highest being 30.20″ @ 0935 down to a low of 30.11″ @ 1835. Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

I talked with Ray at length during the evening. He was telling me all about 3 new on-air TV meteorologists in the Baltimore market (which I cannot get from my current cable hookup). He will be drawing simplified weather maps from what he sees on the Baltimore TV weather shows on a daily basis.

Friday warmed up into the lower mid 80s under partly cloudy/hazy skies, with lows in the lower 60s. Saturday should be partly to mostly cloudy with an 80 POP for thunderstorms, highs in the mid 80s, lows in the upper 60s. Sunday looks to cool off a bit with cloudy skies, highs in the upper 70s, lows around 60°, and a 90 POP for showers and thunderstorms. Monday looks to be cooler and cloudy, highs in the low 70s and lows around 60°, with an 80 POP for more rain showers.

My comcast internet connection was down for a while this morning so sorry for the delay. It is finally back up now. At 1113, Channel 4 radar is showing no returns currently in the 4 state Mid-Atlantic region. Closest rain are numerous showers heading east/southeast out of OH and MI at the current time.

As of 1113, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

High, hazy clouds, still dry and warming up

Station Relative Location Temp  RH   DP    BP     Wind  High/Low temp on Friday
VP2              Ground          79.5° 78% 72° 30.11″S NA     83.1°/61.3°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Friday. The VP2 tipping bucket also showed 0.00″.

Friday’s precipitation was 0.00″
June precipitation 1.72″
Year-to-date precipitation total 20.14″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 80° 68% 68° 30.14″ S NNE 3 G E 8
                              140° from station
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of precipitation on Friday. June total precip remained at 4.58″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount also holding at 30.61″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Friday night the temperature from the VP2 was 73.2° RH 83% BP 30.13″F DP 67.7°
Partly cloudy, muggy and warmer at 2400 Friday

Good morning from the mostly cloudy (broken overcast), hazy home of the walrus on this Saturday.
