A partly sunny, still pleasant update for West Rockville Maryland for Thursday June 7, 2018

Thursday was another pleasant, partly cloudy day with comfortable temperatures and dew points. Temperatures started out in the upper 50s in the early AM and rose into the upper 70s by mid-afternoon. Fair weather cumulus datted much of the afternoon sky. (see today’s featured image taken from the nearby Kaiser Medical Facility in Gaithersburg about 1330 looking North) Overnight into Friday partly cloudy skies with continued relatively pleasant/dry conditions with temperatures falling into the lower 50s by sunrise. The Thursday maximum temperature was 77.8° @ 1635, while the Thursday minimum temperature dropped to 57.9° @ 0605. The dew point temperatures started to creep up into the 60s, ranging from a low of 54° @ 0615 up to a (late) high of 63° @ 2355. The barometric pressure rose some more from Wednesday – the lowest being 30.02″ @ 0105 up to a high of 30.14″ @ 2359. The relative humidity values were about the same as yesterday, ranging from a high of 87% at 0325 down to a low of 55% at 1525.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

In the evening, I watched the 5th game of the Stanley Cup Final series between the Washington Caps and Las Vegas Golden Knights. The Caps won the exciting game 4-3, and took the series 4 games to 1, so they are the NHL/Stanley Cup Champions. Washington DC celebrated plenty well into the night. I am sure they will continue to celebrate for the next few days, culminating in a parade through some of the streets of Washington D.C.

Thursday was partly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s and dry. Friday should warm up into the mid 80s under partly cloudy skies, with lows in the upper 60s. Saturday should be mostly cloudy skies with an 80 POP for thunderstorms, highs in the low 80s, lows in the mid 60s. Sunday looks to cool off a bit more with cloudy skies, highs in the mid 70s, lows around 60°, and an 80 POP for more thunderstorms. Monday looks to be cooler and cloudy, highs in the low 70s and lows around 60°, with an 80 POP for AM rain.

The Channel 4 radar at 0946 is mostly clear in the 4 state mid-Atlantic region with the closest rain falling out of an area of showers/thundershowers in west-central WV along the border with OH. They are moving ESE towards my area, but they probably won’t make it over the mountains. Further W, numerous showers and thundershowers are falling in parts of IL, WI, IA and MN at this time.

As of 0946, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

High, hazy clouds, dry and warming up

Station Relative Location Temp  RH    DP     BP     Wind High/Low temp on Thursday
VP2              Ground       72.1° 79% 65° 30.20″R NA     77.8°/58.5°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Thursday. The VP2 tipping bucket also showed 0.00″.

Thursday’s precipitation was 0.00″
June precipitation 1.72″
Year-to-date precipitation total 20.14″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 73° 70% 62° 30.20″R SW 2 G SSW 7
                            140° from station
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of precipitation on Thursday. June total precip remained at 4.58″ with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount also holding at 30.61″. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Thursday night the temperature from the VP2 was 67.5° RH 85% BP 30.14″R DP 62.8°
Partly cloudy and dry at 2400 Thursday

Good morning from the partly cloudy, hazy home of the walrus on this Friday.
