A cloudy, warmer, muggier update for West Rockville Maryland for Tuesday May 29, 2018
Tuesday started out foggy in the early AM hours around sunrise, with temps in the upper 60s. Fog lifted by mid-morning but the clouds remained all day, though temperatures warmed into the low 80s by mid-afternoon. No measurable rain fell. No storms again today, it was a pretty tranquil day. Temperatures only dropped into the mid 70s in the evening, with continued muggy conditions. The Tuesday maximum temperature reached 81.8° @ 1648, while the Tuesday minimum temperature was 67.5° @ 0302. The dew point temperatures rose from Monday’s values, ranging from a low of 66° @ 0010 up to a high of 73° @ 1500. The barometric pressure was about the same as Monday – but more “compressed” – the highest being 30.04″ @ 0040 down to a low of 29.97″ @ 1755. The relative humidity values were quite high once again, ranging from a high of 97% at 0230 down to a low of 73% at 1600.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Tuesday was cloudy, damp (foggy in the early AM) and warmer later. Temps reached the low 80s by day, mid-upper 60s by night. Overnight into Wednesday we remained cloudy, mild and muggy, with fog developing just before sunrise, lifting later in the AM to a bit of sun at times right now. Temperatures held in the low 70s overnight. During the day on Wednesday, partly to mostly cloudy skies should prevail with highs in the low 80s and lows in the upper 60s, with a 50 POP for PM thunderstorms. Thursday should be cloudy with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the upper 60s and a 90 POP for thunderstorms as the remnants of Alberto start affecting our area despite the dying center of circulation remaining well to the west. Friday should be partly cloudy and very warm to start the month of June with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the upper 60s, with only a 20 POP for rain. Saturday should be cooler and cloudy, with a 90 POP for thunderstorms, highs in the upper 70s and lows in the low 60s. Sunday is supposed to be even cooler, cloudy, with a 90 POP for rain, highs only in the upper 60s and lows in the mid 50s.
The Channel 4 radar at 1052 is showing widely scattered light showers in the mountains to my W and SW over parts of WV, OH, and SW VA at this time. What is left of the circulation of tropical depression Alberto is spinning over the border area of southern IL and southern IN, still in a nice spiral of rain showers over the center.
As of 1052, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:
Cloudy and muggy
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp on Tuesday
VP2 Ground 76.2° 84% 71° 30.07″S NA 81.8°/67.5°
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Tuesday. The VP2 tipping bucket reported 0.00″ of rain.
Tuesday’s precipitation was 0.00″
May precipitation is now 6.04″
Year-to-date precipitation total is now 17.78″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 75° 82% 69° 30.12″S ESE 6 G SE 13
140° from station (est) 82°/65°
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of precipitation on Tuesday. Somehow, May is still showing the 10.09″ for the month with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount of 24.90″ as reported yesterday. No adjustments made as hoped for. I definitely continue to believe that at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Tuesday night the temperature from the VP2 was 73.3° RH 93% BP 30.01″F DP 71.2°
Cloudy, milder, and muggier at 2400 Tuesday
Good morning from the mostly cloudy and muggy home of the walrus on this Wednesday.
