A sunny, dry, warm update for West Rockville Maryland for Thursday May 24, 2018

Thursday was a really sunny, warm, dry day. Everytime I looked out a window to the sky, there was not a cloud to be seen! Dew points low, temperatures warm up into the mid 80s but with the dry air a pretty pleasant day. We could use some of these in about 2 months!! The Thursday maximum temperature reached 84.1° @ 1631, while the Thursday minimum temperature was 59.0° @ 0607. The dew point temperatures fell further as the day wore on, ranging from a high of 60° @ 0806 down to a low of 47° @ 1432. The barometric pressure rose from Wednesday – lowest being 30.11″ @ 0002 up to a high of 30.21″ @ 1111. The relative humidity was a bit high early, but lowered significantly by the afternoon, ranging from a high of 90% at 0557 down to a low of 28% at 1604.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

I started working on my April data once again, in earnest this time to finish it up, and I did. I just submitted it to NJWO WEATHERSHELTER and the NJWO BLOG, where it has already been posted. I will be posting my data on my blog here over the weekend.

Thursday was a sunny, warm day with never a cloud in the sky observed all day. Starting out on a cool note in the upper 50s in the early AM, temps rose into the mid 80s by mid-afternoon. Lows tonight should be around 60°. Friday should be mostly sunny and warmer, with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the upper 60s. At the start of the Memorial Day weekend on Saturday we should see partly cloudy skies with highs up in the mid 80s and lows in the upper 60s and a 60 POP for PM thunderstorms. Sunday increases our PM thunderstorm chances to an 80 POP, temps maxing out in the mid 80s, lows in the mid 60s under partly cloudy skies. Memorial Day Monday should be a bit cooler, cloudy, with highs around 80° and lows in the mid 60s but with only a 20 POP for rain all day. As we return to work on Tuesday, partly cloudy skies resume, highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s, with an 80 POP for PM thunderstorms.

On the Channel 4 radar at 0555 is showing no precipitation in the 4-state mid-Atlantic region. The closest rain is well south over parts of the south (GA, SC, AL) with only widely scattered showers at this time.

As of 0555, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WX Bug station are as follows:

Clear, cool, and dry at the current time.

Station Relative Location Temp   RH    DP      BP   Wind High/Low temp on Thursday
VP2             Ground        60.4°  88%  57° 30.11″S NA    84.1°/59.0°

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Thursday.

Thursday’s precipitation was 0.00″
May precipitation is 5.91″
Year-to-date precipitation total is 17.65″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 58° 94% 57° 30.14″S Calm G SSW 1
                            140° from station                       87°/58°

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of precipitation on Thursday. May is showing 7.02″ for the month with the 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount at 21.82″. I still believe at times the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that the Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Thursday night the temperature from the VP2 was 66.3° RH 68% BP 30.14″F DP 55.4°
Clear and dry at 2400 Thursday

Good morning from the clear, cool and dry home of the walrus early on this Friday.
