A partly to mostly cloudy, not as warm, dry update for West Rockville Maryland for Monday May 21, 2018

Since I was not able to post this Monday report till late this Wednesday morning, I have edited it down from its original form to make it relevant from this point on.

Monday continued our short dry spell, though with increasing clouds from a system to our west that will end this dry period on Tuesday. Temperatures were a bit cooler, only reaching the 80° mark with lows in the mid 60s. The Monday maximum temperature reached 80.0° @ 1445, while the Monday minimum temperature was 65.8° @ 0609. The dew point temperatures lowered a bit, ranging from a low of 59° @ 0901 up to a high of 66° @ 1433. The barometric pressure rose from Sunday – lowest of 30.07″ @ 0026 to the highest of 30.22″ @ 0941. The relative humidity lowered some, ranging from a high of 85% at 0616 down to a low of 57% at 1446.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444 I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I actually use the data I post to cocorahs from my 4″ cocorahs gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.

I tracked the changeable sky through the morning – changing within minutes around noon from an altocumulus (mackerel) sky to a lightly scattered cumulus sky.

Partly cloudy skies early on Monday, changing from altocumulus to cumulus but then eventually a full overcast ahead of the rain expected for Tuesday. We didn’t warm up as much on Monday as the day before, only reaching 80° due to cooler NE breezes and the persistent cloud cover at the normal warmest part of the day. As I write this on Wednesday morning we have a scattered cumulus sky with warmer temps in the mid 70s and dew points around the 65° mark. Wednesday should be partly cloudy with highs around 80° and lows in the upper 50s with no chance of rain.  Thursday should be sunny with highs in the low 80s and lows around 60°. Friday should be mostly sunny and a bit warmer, with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s. At the start of the Memorial Day weekend on Saturday we should see partly cloudy skies with highs up in the mid-upper 80s and lows in the upper 60s with a 40 POP for PM thunderstorms. Sunday looks to a bit cooler but muggy, lows in the upper 60s, partly cloudy with an 80 POP for PM thunderstorms.

I will cover the rest of the real-time data with my upcoming Tuesday report. No rain fell on Monday.

At 2400 obs Sunday night the temperature from the VP2 was 69.2° RH 82% BP 30.15″S DP 63.5°
Cloudy, dry at 2400 Monday

Good morning from the partly cloudy, warmer, dry home of the walrus on this Wednesday.
