Mostly sunny, milder, drying out update for West Rockville Maryland for Wednesday April 18, 2018
I have really been running behind of late, with continued crazy sleep schedules. I am sorry I am very late with my Wednesday report, being written early AM on Friday (finally). This report will necessarily be brief once again, and only include highlights and the basic data for the day. Wednesday was dry, but the sun came out (at least for part of the day) with high temps “soaring” to the 60° level after yet another cold, frosty morning with a low just barely above the freezing mark. Flooding has subsided, and Whites Ferry is back in full operation as of the time of the recording I just listened to. The Wednesday maximum temperature was 59.7 @ 1809 and the Wednesday minimum temperature was 32.6 @ 0431. The dew point temperatures were low in the early AM but started to rise with the warmer weather late, ranging from a low of 24 @ 0001 up to 40 later @ 1718 as the milder air continued to filter in for the day. The barometric pressure started out relatively high, reaching its daily highest point of 29.97″ at 0744, lowering slowly all day to hit its low for the day of 29.71″ much later @ 2351. Relative humidity values stayed relatively low, ranging from a high of 75% @ 0433 down to a low of 45% @ in the mid afternoon dryness @ 1527.

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I use the data I post to cocorahs as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday were clear which allowed the temperature to drop almost to the freezing point.. The dry, sunny skies of Wednesday warmed up some 15° from Tuesday, and many were out in the comparably comfortable outdoor conditions from yesterday. Thursday was mostly sunny and milder in the early AM, but about the same as Wednesday for the high temps early (see my Thursday report that will be posted soon) but a front passed through midday with clouds and a very light shower then colder air came in on very brisk, chilling winds again most of the rest of the day and evening. .Friday and the weekend will be detailed further in my upcoming Thursday report.
Please see my Thursday report for an up-to-date radar summary.
As of 0345 Friday, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows:
Clear and cold.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp Wednesday
VP2 Ground 37.7° 59% 24° 30.24″R NA 59.7/32.6
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Wednesday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony recorded 0.00″ through midnight Wednesday.
Wednesday’s precipitation was 0.00″
April precipitation 2.42″
April snowfall 0.0″ (will be reported till the end of April)
The seasonal snowfall total is 12.0″.
Year-to-date precipitation total is 10.59″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 37 55 22 30.22″R NW 4 G N 15
140° from station 62/29
The Lakewood rain gauge reported 0.23″ of precipitation on Wednesday. It is reporting a total of 2.16″ of precipitation for April and a 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount of 13.03″. I still think the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.
At 2400 obs Wednesday night the temperature from the VP2 was 51.0 RH 65% BP 29.71″F DP 39.6
PCloudy, milder, drying out at 2400
Good morning from the clear, drying out, cold home of the snowless walrus early on this Friday.
