Partly sunny, much warmer update for West Rockville Maryland on Thursday, April 12 2018

Thursday started out with an altostratus overcast into the late AM, then turned partly sunny and much warmer into the mid 70s, as our big warm-up week continues to progress, culminating at the end of the week with 80° temps. An actual warm front passed through the area in the morning with the associated cloudiness and spotty light rain in the region, but not at my station. The Thursday maximum temperature from the VP2 (75.3°) was recorded at 1659 while the Thursday minimum temperature (44.2°) was recorded at 0436. Dew point temperatures were higher than yesterday, ranging from a low of 33° at 0000 up to a high of 45° later at 1910. Relative humidity values averaged out about the same as yesterday (71% – 29%) . Barometric values lowered today, ranging from a high of 30.16″ at 1020 down to a low of 29.81″ at 1819.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I use the data I post to cocorahs as my “official” precipitation total each day.

I took a cloud observation just prior to the trivia game One of the images, looking eastward from my balcony, is the featured image today. I spoke late with Robin, on her way home from a late shift at PF Changs in cooler Las Vegas (at the same time I had 63 she had 59). They had been up in the 90s a few days before.

Overnight Thursday into Friday skies clouded up overnight once again with an altostratus overcast that has continued through mid-morning Friday, along with a warm progression of temps through the 60s. Temps lowered only to the low 60s, as the warm air became firmly entrenches in the area, under at times fresh SW winds. Friday the 13th should be sunny and even warmer, with highs in the low 80s and lows around 60°. Saturday should be mostly sunny and warm once again, with highs around 80° and lows around 60° once again Sunday should cloud up and cool off into mid 60s highs, low 50s lows, and an 80% POP for thunderstorms. Morning rain (100 POP) and cloudy on Monday and even cooler, with highs around 60° and lows in the upper 30s. Tuesday should be partly cloudy with highs in the mid 50s and lows around 40°.

On the channel 4 weather radar website at 1036 shows scattered light rain showers offshore of southern New England, parts of NY state, stretching westward through parts of southern Ontario, mid-Michigan and then into central Wisconsin with some additional thunderstorm action.

As of 1036, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows:

Partial altostratus/cirrostratus overcast with some sun getting through, warmer, but still dry.

Station Relative Location Temp  RH   DP      BP     Wind High/Low temp Thursday
VP2             Ground           72.2° 42% 48° 30.00″S  NA    75.3/44.2

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Thursday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony recorded 0.00″ through midnight Thursday.

Thursday’s precipitation was 0.00″
April precipitation 0.17″
Thursday’s snowfall was 0.0″ (this is the end of the daily snowfall updates)
April snowfall 0.0″ (will be reported till the end of April)
Snow on ground 0 (reported to the nearest half-inch) (this is the end of the season update on this statistic)
The seasonal snowfall total is 12.0″.
Year-to-date precipitation total is 8.34″

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of precipitation on Thursday. It is reporting a total of 0.43″ of precipitation for April and a 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount of 11.30″. I think the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Monday night the temperature from the VP2 was 69.2 RH 42% BP 29.89″S DP 45.1
PCldy, warmer, dry at 2400

Good morning from the partly cloudy, warm, dry home of the snowless walrus on this Friday.
