Mostly cloudy, colder after mild early AM, breezy update for West Rockville Maryland on Saturday, April 7 2018
Saturday started out mild, with the last of the warmth from Friday, but overnight temps dropped about 20° under cloudy skies and stayed in the 40s then 30s in the later stages of the evening. Cloudy skies most of the day as that storm that was thought to be giving us some snow stayed south and there was no precipitation falling in my immediate area. Slow clearing followed in the evening hours. The Saturday maximum temperature from the VP2 (63.4°) was recorded at 0001 (PM Max temp was 42.0° at 1605) while the Saturday minimum temperature (37.4°) was recorded almost 24 hours later at 2325 (AM Min temp was 38.1° at 1040). Dew point temperatures lowered rose some, ranging from a high of 41° at 0138 down to a low of 15° at 1440. Relative humidity values lowered today (65% – 34%) . Barometric values started out at their lowest point very early AM (29.69″ at 0000), then rose through the morning and held steady more or less the rest of the day – the daily high was reached mid-day (29.99″ at 1140).
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444
I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I use the data I post to cocorahs as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Overnight Saturday into Sunday skies were clear after midnight, with temperatures dropping from the mid 30s to below freezing by sunrise. Sunday should be mostly sunny and a bit milder, with highs in the upper 40s and lows around 30°. Monday should be cloudy and a bit colder, highs in the low-mid 40s and lows in the mid 30s. Tuesday looks to warm up a bit, with highs in the mid 50s, lows in the mid 30s, with partly cloudy skies. Mostly cloudy on Wednesday with highs in the mid 50s and lows in the upper 30s as warmer air approaches. Thursday should feature AM clouds and PM sun, with highs in the low 70s and lows in the upper 40s.
On the channel 4 weather radar website at 1409 shows scattered snow showers still falling lightly in parts of the mountainous areas of PA and NY at this time.
As of 1409, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows:
Sunny, scattered cumulus, moderating cold somewhat and dry. This morning’s AM low was 31.1°
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp Saturday
VP2 Ground 44.2° 37% 19° 29.98″F NA 63.4/37.4
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Saturday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony also recorded 0.00″ through midnight Saturday.
Saturday’s precipitation was 0.00″
April precipitation 0.17″
Saturday’s snowfall was 0.0″
April snowfall 0.0″
Snow on ground 0 (reported to the nearest half-inch)
The seasonal snowfall total is 12.0″.
Year-to-date precipitation total is 8.34″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 43 35 17 29.95″F NNW 4 G WSW 18
140° from station 64/36
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of precipitation on Friday. It is reporting a total of 0.39″ of precipitation for April and a 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount of 11.27″. I think the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that Lakewood precip values are estimated from radar.
At 2400 obs Friday night the temperature from the VP2 was 37.5 RH 49% BP 29.94″F DP 20.1
Clear, cold, dry at 2400
Good afternoon from the now sunny, moderating, dry home of the snowless walrus on this Sunday.
