Cloudy , colder, morning light rain update for West Rockville Maryland on Monday, April 2 2018

Easter Monday (Easter Egg Roll Day on the White House Lawn day) was cloudy and colder, with overnight light rain (0.08″) prior to sunrise that just morphed into cloudy, dry skies most of the daylight/evening hours. Today’s featured image is showing my usual view to the N out of my balcony opening. The sky has looked like this from yesterday’s solar noon pictures (N view displayed) around 1310 EDT into Tuesday mid-morning, and several days previous. Is this a classic NW US look? Anyway, showers were never too far away, but light and scattered in the area. The Monday maximum temperature from the VP2 (51.3°) was recorded at 0034 while the Monday minimum temperature (38.5°) was recorded at 0552. Dew point temperatures varied less than Sunday’s readings, ranging from a low of 36° at 0000 up to a high of 41° at 0242. Relative humidity values rose greatly from Sunday (92% – 56%) . Barometric values lowered in the early AM, but then rallied and rose late above Sunday’s readings (29.94″ at 0202) up to a high much later at 30.20″ at 2308.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I use the data I post to cocorahs as my “official” precipitation total each day.

I had a busy day as I wrapped up my February climate data spreadsheet and report, which really took some time actually as I do exhaustive daily reporting and a lot of research, and finally emailed it on to where it had to go. I watched most of the Villanova win over Michigan to win the 2018 National Championship.  I continue to have problems sending out emails, which I have that same solution for, but gets tiresome as I must have done that 3 times on Monday. Many more emails went out without a hitch, the big problem of intermittency just really bothers me.

Overnight Monday into Tuesday skies remained cloudy and cold, holding in the low 40s all night. There were some sprinkles/drizzle around but nothing measurable after midnight. Tuesday should be cloudy and a tad milder with a 70 POP for PM showers with highs in the mid 50s after mild low 50s for lows. Wednesday features more partly cloudy skies with AM showers and possible thunderstorms (80 POP) and wind, highs in the low-mid 60s and lows in the low 30s with a good chance for a freeze. Thursday should be sunny and cool, with lows around 40° and highs only in the low 50s. Friday should be cloudy and windy with highs in the mid 60s and lows in the mid 30s. Believe it or not on Saturday cloudy with a 50 POP for rain or snow showers, highs in the upper 30s and lows in the upper 20s.

On the channel 4 weather radar website at 0938 lots of rain/scattered thunderstorms are falling through much of PA and OH, moving ENE and should mostly miss our area.

As of 0938, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows:

Cloudy, cold, and drying out somewhat

Station Relative Location Temp RH DP   BP       Wind   High/Low temp Monday
VP2            Ground         43.7  82 39 30.11″F    NA       51.3/38.5

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.08″ through midnight Monday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony recorded 0.16″ through midnight Monday. I don’t know what caused this significant difference, unless I am getting some wind swirling action around the cocorahs rain gauge that is blowing the rain more horizontal and causing it not to fall into the gauge. Since midnight, no additional measureable precipitation has fallen through the VP2 gauge up to the present time.

Monday’s precipitation was 0.08″
March (final) precipitation total is 1.62″
April precipitation 0.08″
Monday’s snowfall was 0.0″ (I will continue to report snow in April as this first week looks to have a few chances for snow, amazingly enough)
March snowfall 4.5″
April snowfall 0.0″
Snow on ground 0 (reported to the nearest half-inch)
The seasonal snowfall total is 12.0″.
Year-to-date precipitation total is 8.25″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 42 82 37 30.10″R SSE 5 G SSE 15
                            140° from station                 51/37
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of precipitation on Monday. It is now reporting a total of 0.25″ of precipitation for April and a 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount of 11.12″. Since midnight it has not recorded any additional precipitation up through the current time.

At 2400 obs Monday night the temperature from the VP2 was 42.3 RH 80% BP 30.18″R DP 36.6.

Cloudy, cold, dry at 2400

Good morning from the cloudy, cold, temporarily drying out home of the snowless walrus on this Tuesday
