A partly cloudy very warm day with late night showers update for West Rockville Maryland on Thursday, February 15 2018 and a brief update for Valentine’s Day, February 14 2018

I had a bad experience late Valentine’s Day Wednesday that I don’t really want to get into, but it precluded me posting my weather for Wednesday. I will summarize the day’s stats below and here in a several sentences. It was a partly cloudy day, milder day with a light PM shower (.02″). Temperatures rose to around the 50° mark by the late evening, with lows around the freezing mark for one more day in the early AM hours .The Wednesday maximum temperature from the VP2 (50.5°) was recorded at 2244 while the minimum temperature (31.8°) was recorded at 0544. Dew point temperatures rose late today , ranging from a low of 26° very early at 0001 up to a high of 47° at 2300. Relative humidity values rose quite a bit today (93% – 67%). Barometric values started their decline significantly today, ranging from a high of 30.54″ early at 0000 dropping down almost 24 hours later to a low of 30.08″ at 2355.

Thursday was a very warm day, the warmest max temp (71.1) at 1708 since a 72.1° max was recorded back on November 3, 2017. Temps held just about that warm the rest of the day, only dropping to the mid 60s by midnight. The low temperature for the day was a balmy 48.9° at 0447. There were drizzle traces noted in the late afternoon, and then light showers late in the evening just prior to obs. (0.02″). Dew point temps continued to rise today, ranging from 47° at 0000 up to 60° at 1658. Relative humidity value rose a bit more from yesterday (96%-67%). Barometer values continued to drop all day, ranging from 30.08″ at 0000 down to 29.68″ at 2359.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444.

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115. Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge.

I finally picked up my mail late this afternoon. I had 3 days worth of mail, but it wasn’t really that much but one piece was cool – the January 2018 WEATHERSHELTER issue. Lot of data summaries and articles of interest. I got it wrapped up in a copy of January 1904 data for River Vale NJ for some reason – I have to keep reading to see why it was included with this mailing. I didn’t see anything really notable datawise in it except possibly for the 30 inches of snow being reported. I got some more DC-AMS Chapter Science Fair email sent out. I talked with Marty over a few things, including my problems I had on Wednesday late evening and other weather subjects, particularly our growing snow chances on Saturday. Also talked at length over these and other weather topics, particularly the somewhat diminishing quality of some of the WPC surface charts.

We started Thursday partly sunny with temps soaring through the 50s first then the 60s in the afternoon. We had more sun for a while in the PM to push me over the 70° mark, but then the clouds moved in along with a bit of drizzle on my way to trivia at 1530 and then light showers in the later PM. Overnight into Friday we have had more appreciable rain at times with temps remaining mild. Friday will remain cloudy and rainy (90 POP) and mild in the AM, but getting colder in the PM as the cold front passes through. Colder and cloudy on Saturday with highs in the mid 30s and lows in the upper 20s with a 100 POP for PM snow. Not a big storm, but more than we have been getting (maybe 2-4″ here but stay tuned for updates). On Sunday we should have sunny skies and milder, with highs in the upper 40s and lows in the low-mid 30s. Monday looks like temps will hover around the 50° mark all day with a 60 POP for showers. On Tuesday another warm up under partly cloudy skies (AM clouds/PM sun) with highs in the low 70s and lows in the mid-upper 50s. So much for keeping the snow around for very long….

On the Channel 4 weather website at 0629 radar is showing rain over most of the region, with brighter echoes up in part of PA and northern MD, and out west to WV and points further. Those brighter echoes (yellow and orange) may indicate heavier rain or perhaps some thunderstorms.

As of 0629, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows:
