A brief sunny, milder update for West Rockville Maryland on Saturday, December 16 2017
Saturday continued my crazy holiday schedule so I didn’t get a chance to post my daily weather for the day till now. So I will be brief once again with just basic data and highlights of the day. I will make a full post for Sunday in an hour or two hopefully.
Saturday was a mostly sunny, milder day that unfortunately melted all our snow from Friday. At least it was cold (20s) overnight so the snow remained till the late morning/early afternoon with the still strong full sun and light winds wiping out the snow cover pretty quickly. It warmed into the low-mid 40s by mid-afternoon, then only slowly dropped off in the evening to just under the freezing mark by midnight obs. The Saturday minimum temperature from the VP2 (24.3°) was recorded at 0000 while the maximum temperature (43.7°) was recorded at 1520. Dew point temps ranged from 21° at 0430 up to 27° at 1127. Relative humidity values were basically the same as yesterday’s (93% – 49%). Barometric values rose a bit higher than yesterday, ranging from a low of 30.05″ at 0000 up to 30.23″ much later at 2348, at just about the end of the day.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444.
I am also now on weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115. Please take note that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge.
There was no precipitation in the cocorahs gauge on Saturday. No snow left on the ground. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony registered 0.02″ of precipitation on Saturday, which was as a result of Friday’s snow melting through the VP2 gauge tipping spoons during the mild, sunny skies of Saturday.
December precipitation is 0.43″ through midnight obs Saturday.
December snowfall is now 3.3″. The seasonal snowfall total is 3.3″.
Year-to-date precipitation total is 38.94″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, High 45 Low 23
140° from station
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded a similar 0.02″ “melt-through” during the day on Saturday, similar to the VP2 tipping bucket as reported above.
Temp from the VP2 at 2400 was 30.2 RH 80% BP 30.23R DP 24.9. Mostly clear and not quite as cold but dry at midnight.
